We are currently conducting a study that explores the motivations, practices, and critical assessments of digital humanities scholars’ adoption of Generative AI technologies in research, which includes but is not limited to tools like ChatGPT and DALL-E. Liebe Multilingual DH AG-Mitglieder, heute leite ich Euch im Auftrag des AG-Convenor-Teams eine Anfrage aus dem DHd-Vorstand weiter. Es geht um die Überarbeitung von Regeln zur Multilingualität auf DHd-Konferenzen. Hier hatten wir ja in diesem Jahr mit unserer AG ja bereits eine Erweiterung der Sprache für Einreichungen von Konferenzbeiträgen auch in englischer Sprache einbringen können. Leider sind wir im Convenor-Team aus verschiedenen Gründen in den kommenden 3 Monaten sehr ausgelastet und können uns daher hier nicht in zusätzlichen Sitzungen einbringen. Wir wollten auf diesem Wege aber nachfragen, ob es evtl. 1 oder 2 Mitglieder aus der AG gäbe, die ggf. zusammen (abwechselnd?) an der „Taskforce“ als Vertretung für unsere Multilingual DH AG teilnehmen könnten? In der DHd-Community rückt die Diskussion um eine gemeinsame Wissenschaftssprache immer wieder in den Fokus. Wir hatten jüngst unter anderem im Kontext Eures Diskussionspapiers und den Handlungsempfehlungen darüber gesprochen. Der DHd-Vorstand plant daher die Einsetzung einer temporären Taskforce, die sich der Sprachregelung für DHd-Konferenzen widmet. Ziel dieser Taskforce ist es, die verschiedenen Optionen von Mono-, Zwei- und Mehrsprachigkeit zu beleuchten. Die Ergebnisse der Taskforce sollen in einem Konzept zur "Sprachregelung Konferenz" münden, über das auf der nächsten DHd-Mitgliederversammlung im Februar 2024 abgestimmt werden soll. In der Vergangenheit haben wir erfolgreich solche Abstimmungen, beispielsweise zum Thema "Reviewverfahren", durchgeführt. Der geplante zeitliche Rahmen der Taskforce erstreckt sich also über drei Monate. Der Arbeitsbereich Digital Humanities der Abteilung Forschungs- und Publikationsservices unterstützt Wissenschaftler*innen der Freien Universität Berlin beim Einsatz digitaler Methoden, Werkzeuge und Ressourcen in den Geistes-, Kultur- und Sozialwissenschaften. Dazu zählt u.a. der Aufbau und Betrieb von projektspezifischen und zentralen virtuellen Forschungsinfrastrukturen, die Begleitung der Projektentwicklung und -durchführung sowie Beratungsangebote und Fortbildungen im Kontext von Digital Humanities und Data Literacy. Im Projekt NFDI-4Memory wirkt der Arbeitsbereich mit am geschichtswissenschaftlichen Konsortium 4Memory in der Nationalen Forschungsdaten-Infrastruktur (NFDI, <https://4memory.de> https://4memory.de) Im Mittelpunkt steht hier der Aufbau eines Data Literacy Training Labs inkl. E-Learning-Modulen für Forschungsdaten in den historisch arbeitenden Wissenschaften. Communicating all research in one single language means that language shapes the research, too. Language shapes what is possible to express, contextualize, or reveal. If research is primarily communicated in English, that research is bound by English-language contexts and worldviews. Furthermore, among the contexts influenced by language are publishing models and structures. > > Such a hegemonic system promotes epistemic injustice through language dominance.
