Dear EADH community, this is a kind reminder that the deadline for applications to the *EADH Small Grants (2025–2026)* is approaching. You have until *16 November 2025 (23:59 CET)* to submit your proposal. These grants are intended to support a wide range of activities, from organizing research-related events such as seminars or workshops, to covering travel expenses for collaborative work or for consulting collections in galleries, libraries, archives, or museums. They can also provide support for research time on new or ongoing projects, or for the purchase of equipment and software licenses directly related to a project. A maximum of *five grants of €1,000 each* will be awarded. The call is open to all current EADH members and members of our Associate Organizations (AIUCD, CzADH, DHd, DHNB), and we particularly encourage early-career researchers to apply. Coming at a time when universities also face ideological attacks, and disciplines in the arts and humanities are continually asked to demonstrate their modern relevance, the explosion in the use of generative AI tools has rocked how we teach and learn. The principal challenge comes from the ease with which learners can generate plausible-looking written work. Managing this puts a significant burden on institutions to develop policies around the use of AI, and on educators themselves. Consequently, many Higher Education institutions are exploring new ways to adapt and to develop AI-resilient methods of teaching, learning and assessment. This webinar will discuss alternatives that hold great potential in the face of AI: Project Based Learning (PBL) and digital humanities techniques. Drawing on real-life classroom experiences, we’ll see how introducing PBL through *Gale Digital Scholar Lab* provides a framework for teaching which is broadly AI-resistant, helping students to use GenAI responsibly and be critical of data, as well as giving them new ways of communicating in digital environments. Best regards, Clarisse Bardiot George Bruseker - Takins.solutions Ontologies for Art History: Modelling Creative Processes and Evolving Meanings. 3 novembre, 16h, salle T 233 (hybride) This lecture explores how formal ontologies and semantic data modelling can help art historians represent and connect complex cultural information in ways that go beyond the structuration and mindset imposed by traditional databases. We will examine how such approaches can support expressive and representative research datasets that have much more capacity to capture the complexity and nuance of the historical record while also standing as sus- tainable resources that can be reused across projects and disciplines. I will first reflect on the strengths and limitations of existing standards such as the CIDOC Conceptual Reference Model, now widely used in cultu- ral heritage documentation. I will then introduce two recent ontological frameworks: the Creative Process Representation Ontology (CPRo), which en- ables the modelling of creative activity as it unfolds across processes, forms into documents, is reinterpreted and performed; and the Art and Architectural Argumentation Ontology (AAAo), which provides a way to repre- sent social facts, conventions, and the evolving meaning and valuation of works over time. Throughout, I will illustrate these ideas with examples from art history, showing how they can illuminate not only objects and texts but also the dynamics of events, collaborations, and reception. No prior knowledge of ontologies or data modelling is assumed; the emphasis will be on making these ideas accessible and relevant to historical research on the arts. George Bruseker is a researcher and practitioner in semantic data modelling and cultural heritage informatics. He is Vice Chair of the CIDOC CRM Special Interest Group and co-founder of Takin.solutions Ltd., where he leads projects on ontological modelling and semantic platforms for heritage data. He is also a Research Affiliate at the Swiss Art Research Infrastructure (SARI). Trained as a philosopher and historian (PhD, University of Athens), Bruseker has contributed extensively to international standards such as CIDOC CRM, Linked.Art, and the Arches platform. His work develops frameworks for representing creative processes, social valuation, and provenance in art history, making complex heritage information more interoperable and reusable across disciplines and time. (Apologies for crosspostings you may receive) Dear all, we are excited to publish the final program of the Workshop "Reference Extraction at the Intersection of AI Research and the Digital Humanities: Validation, Interoperability and Collaboration", to be held at the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory<https://www.lhlt.mpg.de/> (mpilhlt) in Frankfurt/Main on Tuesday, 4th Nov 2025. It is the second workshop in the "New Approaches for the Extraction of Heterogeneous Reference Data" series<https://mpilhlt.github.io/reference-extraction/> at mpilhlt started in 2023. This informal meeting is meant mainly to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange between researchers and practitioners working at the intersection of data extraction, artificial intelligence, and the digital humanities. In the workshop, we continue to address the challenge of extracting heterogeneous references from texts, particularly from historical documents and humanities or legal scholarship. This second workshop focuses on three key themes emerging from the 2023 discussions: 1. Validation: How can we evaluate and benchmark the performance of different reference extraction tools and approaches, particularly with large language models? 2. Interoperability: How can we ensure that different tools, datasets, and workflows can work together effectively through shared data models and formats? 3. Collaboration: How can researchers, developers, and institutions work together to advance the field of reference extraction?
