Anne Frank scholarly edition now available in English

Dear colleagues, Some of you might be interested to hear that our TEI-based digital scholarly edition of Anne Frank's manuscripts is now also available in English. It includes her Diary, The Back House (the novel into which she set out to rewrite the diary), her collection of Tales, the unfinished novel Cady's Life and her Book of Beautiful Sentences (inspiring fragments that she copied from her reading). The edition provides extensive historical and textual commentary, context information and background essays. It can be accessed at https://annefrankmanuscripts.org/. Unfortunately, the copyright restrictions are the same as those for the Dutch edition we announced a few years ago. The edition is not accessible from most English-speaking countries, from the Netherlands, France and Spain and from quite a number of other countries. That's also the reason why we cannot publish the XML files. CLS INFRA Fully-funded TNA Fellowships - final call open now

Apologies for cross posting [A green and white sign with blue text Description automatically generated] Transnational Access Fellowship Programme (TNA) is now opening its final call for applications, evaluated on rolling deadlines. The CLS INFRA Fellowship Programme provides access to a wide range of data, tools and knowledge. Scholars from literary studies or with an interest in Computational Literary Studies methods are invited to apply for a fellowship grant in one of our infrastructure providers. Successful applicants will not only obtain free-of-charge physical access to the infrastructure, but in the context of the overall project they will become part of the larger CLS community. By responding to one of our calls, applicants may have the opportunity to: * Interact with experts; * Receive advice on ongoing projects; * Learn how to use the ecosystem of data, tools and standards; * Assemble new literary corpora; * Profit from hands-on training and support. * Fellowships grants will cover housing and subsistence costs as well as travel to and from the host institution. The CLS INFRA Fellowships are funded by the European Union under the rules of transnational access. CLS INFRA fellowship grants will typically cover travel and subsistence costs. Successful applicants are expected to join the chosen infrastructure for a period of 4 to 12 weeks. However, shorter residencies will be also taken into consideration. The last call will be structured on a rollling basis with the following deadlines: * first deadline for evaluation: July 29, 2024 (notification early-mid August) * second deadline for evaluation: September 9, 2024 (notification mid-end September) * third deadline for evaluation: October 21, 2024 (notification early November) * fourth deadline for evaluation: November 25, 2024 (notification early-mid December). This research is characterized by the use of formal methods and the construction of explicit, computational models. This includes quantitative, statistical approaches, but also more generally computational methods for processing and analyzing data, as well as theoretical reflections on these approaches. Despite the undeniable growth of this research area, many scholars still struggle to find suitable research-oriented venues to present and publish computational work that does not lose sight of traditional modes of inquiry in the arts and humanities. This is the scholarly niche that the CHR conference aims to fill. More precisely, the conference aims at 1. Building a community of scholars working on humanities research questions relying on a wide range of computational and quantitative approaches to humanities data in all its forms. We consider this community to be complementary to the digital humanities landscape. We actively seek, welcome, and encourage people with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and identities to join. This includes, but is not limited to, scholars from underrepresented groups, different academic paths, and those who are contributing novel perspectives to the computational humanities landscape. 2. Promoting good practices through sharing “research stories”. Such good practices may include, for instance, the publication of code and data in order to support transparency and replication of studies; pre-registering research design to present theoretical justification, hypotheses, and proposed statistical analysis; or a redesign of the reviewing process for interdisciplinary studies that rely on computational approaches to answer questions relevant to the humanities. ### Topics of interest We invite original research papers from a wide range of topics, including -- but not limited to -- the following: - Applications of statistical methods and machine learning to process, enrich and analyse humanities data, including new media and cultural heritage data; - Hypothesis-driven humanities research, simulations and generative models; - Development of new quantitative and empirical methods for humanities research; - Modeling bias, uncertainty, and conflicting interpretation in the humanities; - Evaluation methods, evaluation data sets and development of standards; - Formal, statistical or quantitative evaluation of categorization / periodization; - Theoretical frameworks and epistemology for quantitative methods and computational humanities approaches; - Translation and transfer of methods from other disciplines, approaches to bridge humanistic and statistical interpretations; - Visualisation, dissemination (incl. The USC Mellon Humanities in a Digital World Program<https://dornsife.usc.edu/digitalhumanities/> and the Ahmanson Lab<https://polymathic.usc.edu/ahmanson-lab> of the Sidney Harman Academy for Polymathic Study in the USC Libraries invite applications for the second annual Immersive Technologies and Cultural Heritage (ITCH) Symposium. The symposium will take place on Friday, September 20, and Saturday, September 21, at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. We seek innovative projects rooted in the humanities or humanistic social sciences that rely on immersive technologies (including but not limited to augmented reality, mixed reality, virtual reality, photogrammetry or 3D modeling) to enable close engagement with cultural heritage materials, or open new possibilities for research, teaching, and learning. We particularly seek projects that realize the benefits of working at the intersection of digital technologies and the liberal arts. Participants will: * Pre-circulate materials related to their current project (such as a draft article, website, VR/AR experience, 3D model, or other format) two weeks prior to the symposium. * Give a 10-15-minute presentation summarizing their project’s context, goals, and implications for humanities scholarship at the symposium. * Lead a hands-on project demonstration and engage in conversation with users. * Offer comments on another participant’s pre-circulated project. * Participate in a concluding roundtable discussion of the promise and perils of immersive technologies for humanities research, teaching, and learning. Workshop discussions will foreground interdisciplinary elements and user experience in project development. The Humanities in a Digital World Program at USC will provide round-trip domestic economy airfare, 3 nights lodging at a hotel near USC in downtown Los Angeles, and up to $200 in reimbursement for ground travel to and from the airport. Talk: 'With Pride, not Prejudice: on Dialogue in Film Adaptations of Literature' (Agata Hołobut, Jan Rybicki)

This time it is dedicated to computational research of dialogues in film adaptations of literature, and also oftheir translations to other languages. The speakers are Agata Hołobut and Jan Rybicki, both from the Institute ofEnglish Studies at the Jagiellonian University. Title: With Pride, not Prejudice: on Dialogue in FilmAdaptations of Literature Abstract: The study of film adaptations of literature has gonethrough a variety of approaches from the early evaluative reviews of the 1950s through comparative analyses of the1970s to a more intertextual view of the phenomenon starting with the 1990s. Our research looks both into quantitativeand qualitative discussion of film dialogue and its translations and into the part that words play in film portrayalsof various historical eras. This is especially important in films that adapt (or translate) literature as much of theviewers’ expectations is based on their perception of the literary original; at the same time, modern perception of thenovels’ and films’ historical settings also come into play. Quantitative approaches allow a whole seriesof comparisons between the dialogues of novels and their film “translations” (and into translations of that dialogueinto other languages), from simple percentages of direct usage of dialogue (and narrative) to stylometric analyses ofword frequencies and other linguistic items. But quantitative analysis can also look at visual elements such ascharacter screen time or camera angle; this can then be compared between various adaptations of the same text andbetween the adaptations and the literary text in search for similarities and differences of perspective. We illustrate our research with examples from a variety of adaptations of literature, with particular focus on variousPride and Prejudice films (1940, 2005) and TV miniseries (1980, 1995). Based on selected scenes taken from the fourproductions we show how recycled, reworked and re-vamped fictionalised dialogue interacts with other elements of thefilm’s structure to create different interpretations of apparently identical literary characters. The central task of the candidate is to develop and populate an open-access online database for the project starting from the collected dataset in spreadsheet format. As part of the research unit based at the ISIG, the candidate will be responsible for the planned database of the ERC project HOLYLAB. The project studies the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land, a thirteenth-century organisation funded to maintain the Holy Sepulchre and the friars’ presence in the Holy Land thanks to a complex system of alms gathering that involved worldwide branches called Commissariats. HOLYLAB investigates the Custody’s economic organisation through its account books for the period 1600 and 1800. One of the project’s main objectives is to offer free access to the data on money, costs, mobility, and consumption extracted from the accounting documents of Franciscan Commissariats. The candidate will work with the spreadsheet dataset collected by the research unit based at Roma Tre and from these develop the database through a DBMS and the Wordpress platform hosted on the Roma Tre servers. The candidate therefore will also use web publishing tools and coordinate with the IT Office of Roma Tre University. If possible, the candidate will produce visualisations from the database to be published on its website. It is necessary to constantly challenge our own claims and understanding of inclusivity. This inevitably involves exploring the situated and intersectional inequities of technological systems, and the cultures and societies that build them. The event will examine inclusive approaches to digital humanities research and practice broadly conceptualised, with an emphasis on intersectional approach to examining barriers to inclusion within different national, organisational, and disciplinary contexts. We are pleased to announce that our keynote roundtable will be moderated by Aoibhie McCarthy, artistic director at Sample Studios, who will be in conversation with Valerie Byrne (Cork City Council), Melissa Terras (University of Edinburgh), and Francesca Farmer (Royal Albert Memorial Museum/University of Exeter). Dear European Digital Humanists, we extended the deadline for proposal submissions for the international conference *"European Cultural Memory in its Digitalization - Inventing Cultural Memory in the 21st Century?"* to *19.5.2024* The concept of cultural heritage has been in circulation for decades (e.g. UNESCO convention 1972) if not centuries (e.g. discussion on repatriation of artworks at the Congress of Vienna, 1815), in scientific, cultural and policy contexts. The extensive digitization of collections in archives, museums, and libraries, as well as the digital dissemination and mediation of cultural artefacts has also been framed as supporting the process of Europeanization. For instance, the mission of Europeana documents this interest in creating a European cultural identity (Capurro 2023). The very idea of a European heritage is embedded with the vision and policies of the European Union, fostering a shared European identity and memory on the grounds of a common culture and history as well as the rejection of the violent experiences of the 20th century (Radonic 2023). The conference “European Cultural Memory in its Digitalization” focuses on the intersection of cultural heritage, digital transformation and Europeanisation processes, also responding to the recent dynamic trends in Artificial Intelligence. It aims to question and problematize dimensions of cultural heritage from the European past in the context of contemporary social, cultural and technological transformations. It thus takes into account both the transformative (technological) and representational (discursive) potentials of digitalization of cultural heritage. This conference will discuss the European and national cultural and research policy strategies in the context of cultural heritage and its digital transformation in general and through the lens of specific projects engaging in this process. Furthermore, recent collaborations between digital humanities and cultural heritage organizations and researchers will be discussed. By contextualizing heritage in the European digital society agenda, general digital transformation processes, datafication and artificial intelligence developments, we will drive forward current debates in Digital Humanities and Memory Studies. The aim of the conference is to bring together researchers and scholars from various disciplines and reflect on the state of research in the field, opening up fresh discussions and dialogue. Dear colleagues, The Digital Humanities Research Hub at the School of Advanced Study, University of London, invites submissions for the inaugural Born-Digital Collections, Archives and Memory conference, to be hosted at the University of London and online from 2-4 April 2025 in collaboration with colleagues from Aarhus University, the British Library, and the Endangered Material Knowledge Programme at the British Museum. We are also delighted to announce our first Keynote Speaker, Dorothy Berry, Digital Curator at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, where her focus is on enhancing public access to digital cultural heritage materials and creating new virtual environments for exploring Black history. Her work explores the intersections of information discovery and African American history, spanning from researching early mentions of African American concert music performances in newspaper databases to curating exhibits showcasing transatlantic art inspired by African American film. Dear all, We are happy to announce that the DH2024 pre-conference workshop “Computational Literary Studies: How To Do Research Responsibly” (co-organized by SIG-DLS and CLS-INFRA) will take place on Monday August 5th, 9:00am - 4:30pm. It will include two keynote talks by Amy Earnhart (on datasets collected responsibly) and Artjoms Šeļa (on statistical analysis conducted responsibly; the actual titles of the two keynote talks to be announced later) and a demo session on extracting information from large-scale collections of texts representing specific genres, e.g. ELTeC (prose) and DraCor (drama). The program will be concluded by a session of Lightning Talks in the afternoon. A light lunch (with vegetarian/vegan options available) will be offered by the organizers. You are all invited to join! Also, if you have an idea that falls under the topic of “Computational Literary Studies” and would like to discuss it with a pool of experts in the field, do not hesitate to send your proposal for a lightning talk! Dear DH-colleagues, (apologies for cross-posting) we (DH Potsdam) invite you to our next online 'Code & culture' lecture titled 'The cultural code of gender: from binary classes to a complex phenomenon of literary characterisation', by Prof. Dr. Mareike Schumacher (currently assistant professor for Digital Humanities at the University of Stuttgart). Here is the abstract for the talk: Can the two classes "male" and "female" – often understood as a binary either-or distinction – actually be modeled as basic units ("primitives") that can be arranged into complex codes designating all facets of gender in its multiplicity? In this talk, an analogy between the technical binary code and the cultural code of gender is used to test the hypothesis that gender can be seen as a discrete phenomenon constructed through varying combinations of male and female features. Additionally, it is brought into question whether "neutral" should be seen as a third basic unit and whether there might be more “gender primitives”. The presentation also includes a case study from Computational Literary Studies, in which several corpora consisting of literary texts in the German language are analyzed. In the study, gender roles such as ‘father’, ‘young girl’, or ‘person’ are classified according to basic gender units. Dear EADH list members, Please find below a Call for Papers for the second Web/Comics workshop, co-located with the Hypertext 2024 conference. ***Submission deadline 15 June 2024 **** Web/Comics 2024: Creativity in Small Spaces is the second in a new workshop series for the ACM Hypertext conference https://ht.acm.org/ht2024/. Web/Comics 2024 wants to investigate whether webcomics exemplify the expansion of hypertext beyond the linearity of information processing systems into a type of interactivity that is nonlinear (multicursal) and ludic. It uses webcomics to explore the boundaries of hypertext, for example by assessing its utility to the reader or user and its effects on “readers’ ongoing process of establishing meaning and coherence. At the same time, it asks how profoundly new tools such as text-to-image models and other forms of generative AI are altering comics production and consumption. The workshop will be held in conjunction with the Hypertext 2024 conference, 10-13 September, at the University of Poznań, Poland. The workshop will take place in a hybrid modality. Umanistica Digitale goes rolling!

Dear colleagues I am pleased to announce that Umanistica Digitale (UD, https://umanisticadigitale.unibo.it/) the scientific journal of the AIUCD (http:www.asiucd.org), will become a rolling publication journal while maintaining its six-monthly periodicity. Accordingly, articles submitted by authors to the journal will be sent for processing immediately and published immediately after the end of the evaluation phase. Every six months, the issue will be closed in July and December, and the book reviews/project reports (that will not benefit from immediate publication for technical reasons) will be added. This model has the advantage of making the publication of scientific papers submitted to UD much faster and of streamlining the editorial workload for both the evaluation and the editorial part while keeping the formality required by many academic evaluation and funding agencies. We are convinced that in the domain of Digital Humanities, the timeliness with which a research product is made public and enters the scientific debate of the community is of utmost importance. In the near future, the editorial staff will assess the feasibility of further innovations such as open peer review. Let me remind you that UD publishes articles in Italian and English, is indexed on Scopus (https://www.scopus.com/sourceid/21101060465 Citescore 2023: 0.8) and is an A-level journal in many disciplinary areas for the Italian evaluation Agency ANVUR (mandatory for obtaining Italian professorship habilitation). Hi all, The Digital Humanities Research Hub at the University of London is pleased to announce a pair of short courses we will be running, focused on using 3D modelling and 3D printing technologies for historical research & cultural heritage. Are you interested in how 3D printing can be useful for cultural heritage? In this short workshop, we will introduce you to Sketchup, an easy-to-use tool for building architectural or other models. Through a mix of online videos to watch in advance and synchronous time with the instructors, we will practise reconstructing a ruined building from Pompeii, following the archaeological reports, dimensions and drawings. We will also discuss the connection between 3D modelling and printing, and walk through the steps to 3D print a model from Sketchup. Exploring Digital Collections and Situated Knowledges in Film History and Beyond Closing Conference of the BMBF Research Group DAVIF Philipps-Universität Marburg November 14-16, 2024 In recent years, the application of digital tools and methods is on a rise within the field of film and media studies, often relying on data provided by film heritage and other GLAM institutions. At the same time, these institutions seek ways to make their collections more accessible for researchers. In this process, ethical considerations regarding data provenance, archival silences and situated knowledges woven into cultural heritage data take on a new urgency. While digital humanists have increasingly investigated power structures inscribed in cultural heritage data, the political, theoretical, and technological underpinnings of film historical collections need further explorations. For example, how do categorization processes underlying information technologies affect our understanding of film history? What impact do they have on different social groups and especially on marginalized communities? How should we deal with the inclusion of certain data and the exclusion of others? How can we identify and represent gaps and blind spots in cultural heritage collections when reflecting history? Bringing together researchers, scholars and practitioners, the conference seeks to stimulate a critical debate about the creation, processing and archiving of film historical data and other cultural heritage data. The goal of the conference is to examine how critical perspectives on historical research data can be combined with new ways of applying and exploring digital tools and methods in film and media studies and beyond. Based on DAVIF’s research on data visualizations and women in film history, the conference focuses on the intersections of feminist (film) historiography, critical data studies, data feminism, archival and curatorial practices, computational approaches, AI applications, and information infrastructures. We invite film and media scholars, film historians, film archivists and digital humanists from various fields to reflect on and challenge power structures of data collections and practices. In particular, we welcome feminist perspectives that seek not only to tell different stories, but also to tell them differently. Participants are encouraged to consider a wide range of subjects for their proposals. These may include but are not limited to: * Datafication of film and media studies and beyond * Feminist film historiography including speculative approaches * Archival silences, biases and gaps in cultural heritage collections * Power-critical analysis of the creation, processing and archiving of film historical data and other cultural heritage data * Data provenance in film heritage institutions and other GLAM institutions * Critical, feminist, queer, postcolonial approaches to data visualizations * Analysis of information infrastructures and authority data (e.g. Wikidata, GND, LoC, VIAF) *Submissions* We welcome two types of proposals: 1) papers and 2) workshops. Talk "The Driving Forces of Literary Evolution" at the DH Network Potsdam (online, April 2)

Dear DH colleagues, we (the Digital Humanities Network at the University of Potsdam) invite you to the online open lecture titled 'The Driving Forces of Literary Evolution: Tracing the Causes of Cultural Change with the Price Equation', by Oleg Sobchuk (researcher at the Department of Human Behavior, Ecology and Culture, Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology; author of the upcoming chapter on Evolution of Modern Literature and Film in the Oxford Handbook of Cultural Evolution). This lecture is the inaugural event of the 'Code & Culture' series of open talks <https://www.uni-potsdam.de/de/digital-humanities/aktivitaeten/code-and-cult…> at the DH Network Potsdam. Annotation: Does literature progress “one funeral at a time”, as Max Planck famously claimed about science? Is the change mainly driven by the turnover of “generations”, or cohorts? Who contributes more to change in literature and arts – “old masters” or “young geniuses”? And how can we separate the different causes of cultural change? A trendline spanning a period of time is one of the most common graphs in the computational humanities. Often, such a trendline is explained with a single causal mechanism: a cause C is driving a trait T over a period P. For example, the proportion of negative words (T1) during the 20th century (P1) in literature is increasing due to “negativity bias” (C1). Or, the proportion of abstract words (T2) in the 19th century (P2) is growing due to urbanisation (C2). On the surface, this approach may look sufficient but, under the surface, there are rocks: not only there could be multiple causes, but also different parts of the trendline may be driven by different causes. In computational humanities, there is no effective method for “dissecting the trendline” and uncovering these hidden causal mechanisms. The scholars of evolution, however, do have such a method: a simple and elegant – and famous – equation that was suggested by the mathematician George R. Price over 50 years ago, known as “the Price equation”. It allowed biologists to uncover the potential driving forces behind evolutionary change. The forces behind literary – and, more broadly, cultural – change are still little known – and much debated. The Price equation can give us some answers. We are pleased to announce a call for papers for an upcoming book project that focuses on the intersection of technology and the arts within the realm of Digital Humanities. As technology continues to evolve, its impact on various disciplines, including the arts, is becoming increasingly significant. This book aims to explore the diverse ways in which computers and digital tools are applied to enhance and transform the landscape of humanities research, particularly within artistic domains. The book also aims to provide a critical overview of the field to the growing African digital humanities community. Scope of the Book: We invite researchers, scholars, and practitioners to contribute original research papers, and reviews that explore, but are not limited to, the following topics: Digital tools and methodologies in art history The DH techniques tools for data analysis The adoption of DH tools for entrepreneurship Computational analysis of literature and literary studies Digital Pedagogy Virtual and augmented reality applications in the arts Digital archives and preservation of cultural heritage Interactive storytelling and digital narratives Computer-generated art and creative coding Machine learning and artificial intelligence in the arts Digital musicology and computational music analysis Digital humanities in film and media studies Ethical considerations in digital humanities research Application of computer technology in historical research methods Scriptwriting and storytelling in the digital age Digital history and its impact on historiography Black Digital Humanities Critical Black Data Studies Collaborations between the arts and other academic disciplines Interdisciplinary approaches to digital humanities projects Ethical considerations in interdisciplinary digital research Case studies highlighting successful interdisciplinary initiatives Innovations in the integration of technology into diverse academic fields Digital Humanities and Environmental History Security and DH Migration, Border studies and DH Digitalising museums, archives, cultural heritages, crafts and artifacts Submission Guidelines: Each potential contributor should submit an abstract of between 250 and 300 words as well as a previously published complete paper electronically to dhprojectng(a)gmail.com. The accepted and corrected paper of not more than 5000 words prepared as Microsoft Word document should include author’s name, title of the paper, institutional affiliation, email address, phone number. Papers should be in British English, Times New Roman, 12 Font Size, 1.5-line spacing and should conform to the Modern Language Association (MLA) Style (footnotes and Bibliography). A short bio-data of not more than 100 words should be submitted along with the paper. Each paper/chapter will undergo series of screening and blind peer review. Manuscripts should be original and not previously published. ---------------------- Conference: Computational Humanities Research 2024 Dates: 4-6 December 2024 Location: Center for Humanities Computing, Aarhus University Website: https://2024.computational-humanities-research.org Call for Papers: https://2024.computational-humanities-research.org/cfp/ Submission deadline: July 8, 2024 ---------------------- In the arts and humanities, the use of computational, statistical, and mathematical approaches has considerably increased in recent years. This research is characterized by the use of formal methods and the construction of explicit, computational models. This includes quantitative, statistical approaches, but also more generally computational methods for processing and analyzing data, as well as theoretical reflections on these approaches. Despite the undeniable growth of this research area, many scholars still struggle to find suitable research-oriented venues to present and publish computational work that does not lose sight of traditional modes of inquiry in the arts and humanities. This is the scholarly niche that the CHR conference aims to fill. More precisely, the conference aims at 1. Building a community of scholars working on humanities research questions relying on a wide range of computational and quantitative approaches to humanities data in all its forms. We consider this community to be complementary to the digital humanities landscape. 2. Promoting good practices through sharing “research stories”. Such good practices may include, for instance, the publication of code and data in order to support transparency and replication of studies; pre-registering research design to present theoretical justification, hypotheses, and proposed statistical analysis; or a redesign of the reviewing process for interdisciplinary studies that rely on computational approaches to answer questions relevant to the humanities. ### Topics of interest We invite original research papers from a wide range of topics, including -- but not limited to -- the following: - Applications of statistical methods and machine learning to process, enrich and analyse humanities data, including new media and cultural heritage data; - Hypothesis-driven humanities research, simulations and generative models; - Development of new quantitative and empirical methods for humanities research; - Modeling bias, uncertainty, and conflicting interpretation in the humanities; - Evaluation methods, evaluation data sets and development of standards; - Formal, statistical or quantitative evaluation of categorization / periodization; - Theoretical frameworks and epistemology for quantitative methods and computational humanities approaches; - Translation and transfer of methods from other disciplines, approaches to bridge humanistic and statistical interpretations; - Visualisation, dissemination (incl. Open science) and teaching in computational humanities. - Potential and challenges of AI applications to humanities research. ### Venue The 2024 edition of the Computational Humanities Research conference will be hosted by the Center for Humanities Computing, Aarhus University ( https://chc.au.dk/) The conference will be a hybrid event with an option to attend in person in Aarhus, virtually, or a combination of the two. More details will follow soon. ### Important dates - Submission deadline: July 8, 2024 - Notification to authors: September, 2024 - Final papers ready: October, 2024 - Conference: December 4 - December 6, 2024 - Pre-Conference workshops: December 3, 2024 ### Submission types **Long Papers**: up to **5000** words (ca. 10 pages, references, abstract and tables/illustrations excluded). Long papers report on completed, original and unpublished results. Brevity of argument is preferred. We welcome the use of appendices or other supplementary information. **Short Papers**: up to **3000** words (ca. 6 pages, references, abstract and tables/illustrations excluded). Short papers report on focused contributions, and may present work in progress. Short papers are presented either as short oral presentations or posters. **Lightning Talks**: Submit an abstract of up to 750 words (excluding references, tables and illustrations) to give a 5 minute presentation during a lightning talks session. This format can be well suited for reporting work in progress, introducing ideas, preliminary results, or focused question-answer research. **Workshops**: up to **1500** words. Workshops should be organised to be more interactive than the main conference. The workshops will take place before the conference, on 3 December. Known under the name of Computational Literary Studies, Digital Literary Studies, or Cultural Analytics, the field primarily revolves around computer-assisted analysis of literary sources. The aim of the event is to provide an opportunity for researchers, activists, and artists investigating or applying queer approaches to data and technology to meet in an open and inclusive venue, share their latest work, and engage in fruitful discussion. During the event, speakers with different backgrounds — both academic and non-academic — will share short papers on a broad range of topics including queer data, queer identities, queer language, data justice and power, queer design, and queer communities on digital platforms. Dear all, The Digital Humanities Research Hub at the School of Advanced Study, University of London, invites submissions for the inaugural Born-Digital Collections, Archives and Memory conference, to be hosted at the University of London from 2-4 April 2025 in collaboration with colleagues from Aarhus University, the British Library, and the Endangered Material Knowledge Programme at the British Museum. However, born-digital cultural materials that originate and circulate across a range of formats and platforms are rapidly expanding and raising new opportunities and challenges for research, archiving and collecting communities. Collecting, accessing and sharing born-digital objects and data presents a range of complex technical, legal and ethical challenges that, if unaddressed, threaten the archival and research futures of these vital cultural materials and records of the 21st century. Moreover, the environments, contexts and formats through which born-digital records are mediated necessitate reconceptualising the materials and practices we associate with cultural heritage and memory.
