The Department of German and Art Studies, Institute of Art History at University of Marburg is currently accepting applications for a Research Assistant The position is offered for a period of 4 years. The starting date is as soon as possible. The position is fulltime with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13). The sub-project “pictorial narration and visual representation of antiziganist motifs (1848-1930)” of the research group “Antiziganism and Ambivalence in Europe (1850-1950)” investigates the constitutive significance of visual antigypsyist stereotypes in figures, motifs and pictorial narratives for the formation of European modernity. Antigypsyist motifs from high and popular culture are to be indexed, catalogued, categorized and evaluated in their structural entirety for the first time in order to ensure coherent art-historical analyses on this basis. The sub-project is also responsible for setting up a multimodal database, i. e. the technical infrastructure of the research group, in which events, works and people are conected. This digital research environment is intended to enable the mapping and evaluation of antiziganist images, from paintings to advertisements, and to ensure a systematic link with the materials and discourses of the neighboring disciplines involved. Tasks: - implementation and operation of a multimodal research environment for the entire research group - research data management with regard to sensitive and discriminating data - teamwork with all sub-projects and support with digital humanities tasks - preparation and implementation of scientific workshops and conferences - own research, e. g. on multimodal databases in the humanities and the specific challenges of sensitive data - This is a project position that is not limited according to § 2, 1 WissZeitVG. STAGE Seminar - Derek Miller’s Presentation (18/11/24) - A Bird's-Eye View of US Theater Around 1900

Dear colleagues, Next Monday (18/11/24), the third session of the STAGE seminar will take place, featuring a presentation by Derek Miller, Professor of English at Harvard University: A Bird's-Eye View of US Theater Around 1900 Like so much cultural history, theater history tends to focus on outstanding performers, writers, or productions. But most theatrical practice is normal: there are typical ways to write, stage, produce, and attend a play. Quantitative methods of historical analysis make it easier to understand the norms of theatrical practice. In this presentation, I explore data from a set of guides to the late-nineteenth-century theater in the United States. I offer model analyses of (a) the number of theaters in the US from after the Civil War to WWI, as well as their seating capacities; (b) the geographic distribution and operation of the Theatrical Syndicate; and (c) theater electrification. Along with these examples, I will explain my procedures for working with this data. I consider both what these methods can teach us about these topics, and what issues come to light, but perhaps cannot be answered, through quantitative archives and analysis. Derek Miller is Professor of English at Harvard University, where he has taught theater history and dramatic literature since 2013. He has published extensively on the theater industries in the US and UK since the nineteenth century, primarily on law and performance, particularly copyright. Recent work includes an essay on digital methods in theater studies, a chapter about legal texts as performance texts, and an elegy for theater tickets. It utilizes deep learning models, such as Large Language Models (LLMs), to recognize and replicate data patterns, enabling the generation of human-like content. Notable families of LLMs include GPT (GPT-3.5, GPT-3.5 Turbo, and GPT-4), LLaMA (LLaMA and LLaMA-2), and Mistral (Mistral and Mixtral). GPT, which stands for Generative Pretrained Transformer, is especially popular for text generation and is widely used in applications like ChatGPT. GenAI has taken the world by storm and revolutionized various industries, including healthcare, finance, and entertainment. However, GenAI models have several limitations, including biases from training data, generating factually incorrect information, and difficulty in understanding complex content. Additionally, their performance can vary based on domain specificity. In recent times, Knowledge Graphs (KGs) have attracted considerable attention for their ability to represent structured and interconnected information, and adopted by many companies in various domains. KGs represent knowledge by depicting relationships between entities, known as facts, usually based on formal ontological models. Consequently, they enable accuracy, decisiveness, interpretability, domain-specific knowledge, and evolving knowledge in various AI applications. The intersection between GenAI and KG has ignited significant interest and innovation in Natural Language Processing (NLP). For instance, by integrating LLMs with KGs during pre-training and inference, external knowledge can be incorporated for enhancing the model’s capabilities and improving interpretability. When integrated, they offer a robust approach to problem solving in diverse areas such as information enrichment, representation learning, conversational AI, cross-domain AI transfer, bias, content generation, and semantic understanding. Our guest this time is Prof. John Dawson, who served as the Head of the Literary and Linguistic Computing Centre (LLCC) at theUniversity of Cambridge from 1974 to 2009. Title: Digital Humanities — an Ancient History Abstract: The Literary and LinguisticComputing Centre (LLCC) at the University of Cambridge was established in 1964 and had to devise innovative methods forinputting, storing, and analysing text of many types and in several alphabets. John Dawson was Head ofLLCC from 1974 to 2009. During that time, advancements in computer storage, software techniques, and printingtechnology revolutionised Digital Humanities, but they also posed many new challenges for humanists. Two examples: * In 1977 Chinese characters could only be drawn as simple line-drawings on a graph plotter, andthere was no established way to sort and print the mixture of Chinese and English required for a Chinese–Englishdictionary. * Concording the Poems and Plays of T. S. Eliot required a large amount of computer store,three magnetic tapes, and 45 minutes of computer time on a mainframe computer. The Concordance had to be sent onmagnetic tape to be printed on a Monotype typesetter at Oxford University. The talk will show howsome of these problems were overcome. Many of the techniques have been made redundant by modern technology, but lessonscan still be learnt. The talk will take place online on November at 16:00 CET. It utilizes deep learning models, such as Large Language Models (LLMs), to recognize and replicate data patterns, enabling the generation of human-like content. Notable families of LLMs include GPT (GPT-3.5, GPT-3.5 Turbo, and GPT-4), LLaMA (LLaMA and LLaMA-2), and Mistral (Mistral and Mixtral). GPT, which stands for Generative Pretrained Transformer, is especially popular for text generation and is widely used in applications like ChatGPT. GenAI has taken the world by storm and revolutionized various industries, including healthcare, finance, and entertainment. However, GenAI models have several limitations, including biases from training data, generating factually incorrect information, and difficulty in understanding complex content. Additionally, their performance can vary based on domain specificity. In recent times, Knowledge Graphs (KGs) have attracted considerable attention for their ability to represent structured and interconnected information, and adopted by many companies in various domains. KGs represent knowledge by depicting relationships between entities, known as facts, usually based on formal ontological models. Consequently, they enable accuracy, decisiveness, interpretability, domain-specific knowledge, and evolving knowledge in various AI applications. The intersection between GenAI and KG has ignited significant interest and innovation in Natural Language Processing (NLP). For instance, by integrating LLMs with KGs during pre-training and inference, external knowledge can be incorporated for enhancing the model’s capabilities and improving interpretability. When integrated, they offer a robust approach to problem solving in diverse areas such as information enrichment, representation learning, conversational AI, cross-domain AI transfer, bias, content generation, and semantic understanding. In a world where artificial intelligence is redefining the boundaries of knowledge, it is indeed crucial to explore how this transformation can be guided by principles of inclusiveness and equity. While one track of the conference will be devoted exclusively to this issue, all the different parts of the Digital Humanities are affected by it in various ways. Starting with the computational part, which needs to better understand its tools to counter biases and distortions, but which can also use them to democratize access to knowledge and culture. Access which, in turn, can be fostered by good practices in the digitization of works and documents, by supporting, for example, the encoding of accessible digital editions for all types of users. In the field of knowledge representation, then, the concept of accessibility is already inscribed at the heart of the FAIR principles (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, Reusability), which need increasingly virtuous applications within digital heritage preservation practices. Preservation which, finally, is at the heart of contemporary challenges to ensure that cultural heritage is not only safeguarded, but also made accessible and understandable to a global and diverse audience. Therefore, papers relevant to the following conference tracks are invited: 1) Digital Humanities and Inclusion Proposals related to issues of inclusion in the Digital Humanities from multiple perspectives are welcomed: from accessibility at the level of research, teaching, infrastructure, and outreach, to practices for overcoming gender, economic, social, and cultural disparities. Specific topics of interest include: minority representation in digital projects; accessibility of digital resources for disadvantaged communities; the role of digital humanities in bridging the digital divide; innovative methodological approaches to make digital projects more inclusive and participatory. 2) Archives and Digital Editions We welcome both theoretical and applied proposals on (a) the representation and organisation of techniques and problems in the fields of digitisation, the organisation of born-digital heritage and methods for its archiving; (b) themes, issues, and applications pertaining to digital critical editions, to modes of visualisation and interrogation of online texts, and alternative means of encoding. 3) Computational Methods Papers are welcomed that explore methods and tools for computational analysis of cultural heritage, including advanced approaches based on cutting-edge technologies in Artificial Intelligence. Reflections on the state of the art, up to the latest theoretical frameworks, are also encouraged, with the aim of highlighting future developments and perspectives in the field. Included are approaches for the analysis of literary texts and *corpora*, touching upon computational models for literary criticism on the one hand, and research in computational linguistics and natural language processing on the other. Papers on analysis and visualization methods such as Network Analysis and Mapping are also welcomed. 4) Data and Knowledge Representation Special attention will be given to knowledge representation and the use of Semantic Web and Linked Open Data technologies. We welcome proposals concerning the design of conceptual models, knowledge graphs, ontologies and technologies of the Semantic Web with respect to cultural heritage and the Digital Humanities, the creation of datasets and applications that conform to the FAIR principles, the production of Linked Open Data in these domains, as well as the automated extraction of metadata, named entities and models from cultural heritage resources. 5) Preservation of Memory and Digital Heritage We welcome proposals concerning memory and digital cultural heritage preservation, particularly relating to the research outputs in the Digital Humanities. We also encourage proposals addressing the challenges of digital infrastructure and the problems of sustainability posed by projects involving digitisation and the conservation of born-digital collections, as well as proposals on the implementation of best practices for the preservation of, and effective access to, cultural heritage. Guidelines for the Submission of Proposals The conference envisages participation by oral communication (paper) or poster. At the proposal stage, authors are asked to speciﬁfy in which mode they intend to present the paper, whether by oral or poster communication. Following peer review, the Scientific Committee may decide whether the accepted contribution is more suitable for an oral communication or a poster presentation. It should be noted that there is no difference in quality between contributions assigned to one or the other mode of presentation: oral presentations are generally more appropriate for theoretical and methodological work, including that relating to actual applications; posters, optionally presented with a demo, are better suited to the description of projects, tools or digital resources. All proposals must be submitted in the form of a contribution of a minimum of three (3) and a maximum of five (5) pages, excluding bibliography. The submission format for contributions must adhere to the template (updated from previous years) and directions found on the page Information for Authors <https://aiucd2025.dlls.univr.it/en-gb/informations-for-authors/>. Contributions that do not adhere to the template and directions will be rejected without considering their content. Neither plagiarism nor self-plagiarism is tolerated. Please note that a plagiarism checking tool may be applied to submitted contributions. The use of Large Language Models (LLMs), such as ChatGPT, is not permitted unless the generated text is submitted as part of the experimental analysis, or the generative AI tool was used only for editing and refinement of the authors’ work. However, all uses must be explicitly stated in the submitted contribution. Contributions must be submitted, in PDF format only, using the platform that will be made available on the conference website <https://aiucd2025.dlls.univr.it/en-gb/submission/> on December 12, 2024. Proposals must be anonymised. Author names and any internal references should be removed to the extent possible so as to not compromise reviewers’ assessment of the proposal. A maximum of two proposals in the five tracks of the call can be submitted as the first contributing author. At the conference, authors will be allowed to present a maximum of two accepted contributions as either first or co-authors. In any case, at least one of the authors must register for the conference for the contribution to be accepted. The official languages of the conference are Italian and English. Authors can present in either language, regardless of the one used in their written proposal. Evaluation Criteria Proposals will be evaluated through a “double-blind” review process. Each contribution will be submitted to at least two reviewers. Proposal evaluation will be conducted based on the following criteria: - relevance of the contribution to the purpose of the conference; - innovativeness and relevance of the contribution; - methodological rigor; - critical analysis of the literature on the topics covered and relevant and up-to-date bibliography; - appropriateness of theoretical and conceptual approach to the relevant domain; - quality of exposition and adequacy of organization of the contribution; - critical attitude toward the adopted methodologies and the tools in use; - replicability of the results (with the exception of theoretical reflections). In un mondo in cui l’intelligenza artificiale sta ridefinendo i confini del sapere, è infatti fondamentale esplorare come questa trasformazione possa essere guidata da principi di inclusività ed equità. Mentre un track del convegno sarà dedicato esclusivamente a questa tematica, tutte le diverse anime delle Digital Humanities ne sono in vario modo investite. A partire da quella più puramente computazionale, che necessita di meglio comprendere i propri strumenti per contrastare bias e distorsioni, ma che può anche utilizzarli per democratizzare l’accesso al sapere e alla cultura. Accesso il quale, a sua volta, può essere favorito da buone pratiche nella digitalizzazione di opere e documenti, supportando per esempio la codifica di edizioni digitali accessibili per ogni tipo di utenza. Nell’ambito della rappresentazione della conoscenza, poi, il concetto di accessibilità è già inscritto al cuore dei principi FAIR (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, Reusability), i quali necessitano di una sempre più virtuosa applicazione in seno alle pratiche di preservazione del patrimonio digitale. Preservazione la quale, infine, è al centro delle sfide contemporanee per garantire che l’eredità culturale non solo sia salvaguardata, ma anche resa accessibile e comprensibile a un pubblico globale e diversificato. Sono quindi incoraggiati interventi pertinenti ai seguenti assi portanti della conferenza: 1) Digital Humanities e inclusione Si accolgono proposte relative alle tematiche dell’inclusione nell’ambito delle Digital Humanities sotto molteplici aspetti: dall’accessibilità a livello di ricerca, didattica, infrastrutture e divulgazione, alle pratiche per il superamento delle disparità di genere, economiche, sociali e culturali. Gli specifici temi di interesse includono: la rappresentazione delle minoranze nei progetti digitali; l’accessibilità delle risorse digitali per comunità svantaggiate; il ruolo delle Digital Humanities nel colmare il divario digitale; approcci metodologici innovativi per rendere i progetti digitali più inclusivi e partecipativi. 2) Archivi ed edizioni digitali Si accolgono interventi di tipo metodologico e applicativo su: a) rappresentazione e organizzazione delle tecniche e criticità nel campo della digitalizzazione, dell’organizzazione del patrimonio nato digitalmente e delle modalità della sua archiviazione; b) temi, questioni, applicazioni inerenti alle edizioni scientiﬁche digitali, alle modalità di visualizzazione e interrogazione dei testi disponibili in rete nelle varie modalità di codifica. 3) Metodi computazionali Si accolgono interventi che esplorino metodi e strumenti per l’analisi computazionale del patrimonio culturale, inclusi approcci avanzati basati sulle tecnologie più all’avanguardia nell’ambito dell’Intelligenza Artificiale. Si incoraggiano inoltre riflessioni sullo stato dell’arte, fino ai più recenti quadri teorici di riferimento, con l’obiettivo di evidenziare sviluppi e prospettive future nel campo. Sono inclusi gli approcci per l’analisi di testi letterari e *corpora*, che tocchino da un lato i modelli computazionali per la critica letteraria, dall’altro le ricerche di linguistica computazionale e le tecniche di elaborazione del linguaggio naturale. Si accolgono anche interventi su metodi di analisi e visualizzazione come Network Analysis e Mapping. 4) Rappresentazione di dati e conoscenza Particolare attenzione sarà riservata alle riﬂessioni sull’organizzazione della conoscenza e sull’impiego di tecnologie del Semantic Web e dei Linked Open Data. Si accolgono proposte di progettazione di modelli concettuali, grafi di conoscenza, ontologie e tecnologie del Semantic Web per i Beni Culturali e le Digital Humanities, di creazione di dataset e applicazioni conformi ai principi FAIR, di produzione di Linked Open Data nei settori dei Beni Culturali e delle Digital Humanities, di estrazione automatica di metadati, entità e modelli da risorse del patrimonio culturale. 5) Preservazione della memoria e del patrimonio digitale Sono attesi interventi riguardanti la conservazione della memoria e del patrimonio culturale digitale, incluse speciﬁche riﬂessioni sulla preservazione degli esiti delle ricerche in Digital Humanities e dei progetti scientiﬁci digitali. Sono incoraggiati anche interventi sulle criticità infrastrutturali e sui problemi di sostenibilità dei progetti legati alla digitalizzazione e alla conservazione di collezioni nate digitalmente, nonché proposte per la messa in atto di buone pratiche che garantiscano, oltre alla preservazione, anche l’accesso effettivo al patrimonio. Formato e modalità di invio delle proposte Il convegno prevede la partecipazione tramite intervento orale (paper) o poster. Nella fase di proposta si richiede alle autrici e agli autori di speciﬁcare in quale modalità intendono presentare l’articolo, se con una comunicazione orale o con un poster. A seguito della peer review, il Comitato Scientifico potrà decidere se il contributo accettato sia più adatto a una comunicazione orale o a una presentazione a mezzo poster. Si precisa che non c’è differenza di qualità tra i contributi assegnati all’una o all’altra modalità di presentazione: gli interventi orali sono di norma più adatti a riﬂessioni teoriche e metodologiche, anche connesse a esperienze sul campo; i poster, eventualmente affiancati da demo, sono particolarmente adatti alla descrizione di speciﬁci progetti, strumenti, risorse digitali. Tutte le proposte devono essere inviate nella forma di contributo di un minimo di tre (3) pagine ﬁno a un massimo di cinque (5) pagine, bibliograﬁa esclusa. È possibile presentare in qualità di primo autore di contributo, un massimo di due proposte nei cinque track della call. In sede della conferenza è possibile presentare al massimo due contributi, di cui si è autori o coautori, tra quelli eventualmente accettati. In ogni caso, perché il contributo sia accettato è necessario che almeno uno degli autori si iscriva al convegno. Le lingue ufficiali della conferenza sono l’italiano e l’inglese. La scelta dell’una o dell’altra per il contributo non è vincolante per la comunicazione in sede di convegno. Criteri di valutazione delle proposte Le proposte saranno valutate attraverso un processo di revisione “a doppio cieco”. Ciascun contributo sarà sottoposto ad almeno due revisori. La valutazione delle proposte sarà condotta sulla base dei seguenti criteri: - attinenza del contributo alle finalità della conferenza; - innovatività e rilevanza del contributo; - rigore metodologico; - analisi critica della letteratura sui temi trattati e bibliograﬁa pertinente e aggiornata; - adeguatezza dell’impostazione teorica e concettuale rispetto al dominio di riferimento; - qualità dell’esposizione e adeguatezza dell’organizzazione del contributo; - atteggiamento critico verso le strategie adottate e gli strumenti in uso; - replicabilità dei risultati descritti (con l’eccezione per le riflessioni teoriche). *Katrin Dennerlein/Patrick Fortmann: “R**ewriting Literary History With Algorithms**”* *Max Kade Conference 2024 at the *Department of Germanic Studies, University of Illinois at Chicago, November 14 & 15, 2024 Location: Behavioral Sciences Building, 1007 W Harrison Street, Suite 153, MC 206, Chicago, IL 60607 and on Zoom In the past 20 years, data-driven research approaches have profoundly shaped many academic disciplines. This shift has also influenced literary studies, especially with the digitization of large text collections over the last 10 to 15 years. By applying algorithms to these collections of digital literary texts, scholars can gain new insights into their structures and developments. However, literary texts have been studied quantitatively far less frequently than non-literary texts. They present particular challenges for quantitative analysis due to their complexity, such as their fictional nature, their creative and aesthetically motivated use of language, and the unique characteristics of literary symbols. Unlike other texts, literary works often communicate indirectly through stories and images, and they tend to individualize and hybridize their style, themes, and forms. Several key challenges arise from the distinctive nature of literary texts and the current state of research in this emerging field. These include the need to adapt text analysis tools to the domain of literature; the complex relationship between norms and deviations in literary texts; determining similarities and differences between literary and non-literary works; the difficulty of reaching consensus on how to annotate features relevant to literary studies; the lack of interpretive transparency in modern formal models; and the urgent need to build reference corpora. Achieving progress in this area requires close interdisciplinary collaboration between researchers from literary studies, digital humanities, corpus linguistics, computational linguistics, and computer science. In recent years, several initiatives have advanced this field, including research funding programs, book series, journals and a number of important monographs. Given these developments, it is now time to assess the field and take stock. At the heart of this discussion lies the question of how insights from digital humanities have prompted a reevaluation—or even a complete rewriting—of literary history. The primary focus of this conference is the presentation of research findings. While methodological discussions remain important, speakers will emphasize the results of their work, demonstrating how these findings contribute to reshaping or transforming existing literary knowledge. This means either revising established hypotheses or introducing new perspectives on topics such as the formation of literary groups and movements, textual features, and the correlations between literature and historical or societal events. The presentations will offer findings that challenge and refine existing hypotheses about literary evolution. They will explore the diverging characteristics of specific genres, styles, and themes across periods and movements. Speakers will also address how literature's cultural capital and its role in literary life have evolved, as well as how new groups and trends have emerged within literary history. Additionally, these presentations will offer novel insights into both textual features and metadata analyses. Our guest this time is Prof. Dr. Anastasia Glawion, Junior Professor for Digital Literature and Methods at the FAU University of Erlangen-Nürnberg. Title: *Capturing Participatory Culture: A Network Analysis of Fanfiction Communities and Reader Interactions* Abstract: /Over the past 20 years, fanfiction writing has been on the rise. This fan-driven practice presents an ideal case for digital literary studies, as the texts are digitized, widely available, and challenge the status quo of the canon. Many fanfiction scholars have underlined the importance of the participatory aspect in studying the phenomenon. In this presentation, I show how interactions on fanfiction websites can be investigated through metadata-based network analysis. This approach provides fresh insights into textual reception and reader engagement, while offering a more comprehensive perspective on how fanfiction communities interact with texts and reshape them. As a result of this process, various interpretive communities emerge, each with its own dynamic. Some span across multiple fandoms, while others demonstrate different perspectives on a single canon, such as communities in the “Harry Potter” universe where a distinctive cluster focused on Hermione becomes visible./ The talk will take place online on *October 24 at 18:00 CEST*. The School is aimed at students and early-career scholars* who are beginning to explore DigitalHumanities (DH) and are interested in working with textual sources. Participation is free. The concept of the DH school While traditional hermeneutic approaches remaincrucial in the humanities, computational methods offer additional perspectives for textual analysis. The Spring Schoolaims to guide participants through the process of formulating a research question about a textual source to developing a comprehensive research project. The School provides anintroduction to several computational methods and offers an opportunity for the students to reflect on the prospects of applying those methods to their own research projects/interests. "Text as Data" features intensive discussions, workshops, and lectures tailored for students across allhumanities disciplines who are interested in computational approaches to text. Dear all, I'm looking to recruit a post-doctoral researcher in computer science or digital humanities to my ERC-funded project, which started in May 2024: https://www.helsinki.fi/en/researchgroups/multimodality/a-foundation-for-em… The project develops novel methods and resources for studying multimodality, or how human communication naturally combines multiple 'modes' of expression. These methods and resources are used to develop empirically founded theories of multimodal communication in the domain of everyday cultural artefacts. The data studied in the project includes, for example, school textbooks, user-generated explanation videos on social media, news broadcasts, instruction manuals and online newspapers. This is a fixed-term position for 48 months, starting in January 2025 or as agreed, based in the Department of Languages at the University of Helsinki, Finland. The deadline for applications is October 21, 2024. RESPONSIBILITIES: The post-doctoral researcher is responsible for developing new methods for querying the multimodal corpora created in the project, which describe the structure of multimodal discourse using graphs that combine crowdsourced human insights and vector representations. QUALIFICATIONS: The appointee must hold a doctoral degree in digital humanities, humanities computing, language technology, computer science or a related field, and have a keen interest in multimodality. "Worlds of Learning" Through Digital Approaches to Late Medieval Charters The Department of Digital Humanities at the University of Graz, host of the European Research Council-funded project "From Digital to Distant Diplomatics" (DiDip), invites submissions for a series of sessions at the International Medieval Congress 2025, exploring the conference theme "Worlds of Learning" through innovative Digital Humanities approaches to late mediaeval charters (c. 1300-1500). Charters are "Worlds of Learning" - for contemporaries learning about legal activities and status, and for mediaeval studies scholars, sources of their own learning. Digital methods provide entirely new learnings: on the charters themselves and on the actors writing, using, and keeping charters. Our sessions aim to demonstrate how computational methods can fundamentally transform and expand our understanding of documentary practices and knowledge transmission across Europe. We welcome papers on the following topics: 1. Computer Vision and Medieval Charters: New Perspectives on Visual Learning * How can computer vision techniques reveal patterns in the visual aspects of charters across regions and time? * Applications of machine learning algorithms to identify and analyse layout, script styles, and graphical elements (seals, monograms) in large datasets of digitised charters. 2. Natural Language Processing and Charter Formulas: Tracing Textual Learning Networks * Computational analysis of charter texts using NLP techniques to uncover patterns in formulaic language, legal terminology, and scribal practices. * Exploration of networks of textual learning and the dissemination of documentary conventions across linguistic and cultural boundaries. 3. Data Visualisation and Medieval Charter Networks: Mapping Knowledge Circulation * Application of network analysis, GIS mapping, and other visualisation methods to represent relationships between chanceries, scribes, and document types. * New insights into the "worlds of learning" in charter production through data visualisation techniques. 4. Digital Methodologies and Medieval Charters: Innovative Approaches to Documentary Learning * How can digital editions enhance our understanding of charter creation, use, and preservation? What insights can database creation and management offer into the organisation and retrieval of mediaeval documentary knowledge? * Applications of XML/TEI encoding for semantic analysis of charter content and structure. * Exploration of linked data approaches to connect charter information across different collections and archives. By applying state-of-the-art computational methods to the study of late mediaeval charters, we aim to contribute to a more interconnected and nuanced understanding of European documentary cultures and the transmission of specialised knowledge in this period. Hi all ~ As part of the Text Analysis Pedagogy (TAP) Institute from Constellate, we are running a free webinar panel discussion with two legal experts about ChatGPT and copyright on Monday, August 5, at 11:30 am Eastern: ChatGPT and Copyright Infringement The New York Times initiated legal proceedings against OpenAI on December 27, 2023, accusing the company of deliberate copyright violation through ChatGPT, its generative AI product. The Times pursued more than just monetary compensation; it requested a federal court to mandate the destruction of ChatGPT and any other AI models trained on the same data. In this panel, we will discuss the implications of copyright infringement by ChatGPT and how it affects the public. We will also discuss the difficulties in defining data rights in the context of generative AI. You'll gain understanding of the training data that large language models may lawfully use and the technological guardrails that may be necessary to avoid legal liability. * sorry for cross-posting * Dear colleagues, The Digital Humanities Team at the University of Vienna and the Ottoman Nature in Travelogues (ONiT) project are pleased to announce a hackathon dedicated to exploring current challenges and solutions related to the analysis of texts, images, and multimodal sources. The hackathon is targeting scholars with backgrounds in Arts and Humanities as well as Computer Science with an interest in Computational Humanities methods. The aim of the hackathon is to bring together tool providers and art and history researchers to collaboratively focus on the analysis of digitised texts, images, or an inter-medial approach. The hackathon will be a two-day event starting on Thursday, November 14 at 9:00 CET and ending on Friday, November 15 at 15:00 CET. On the first day of the event, participants will be invited to propose topics and challenges related to the theme of the hackathon that they wish to work on. Working groups will then be formed from the participants to investigate these challenges. The working groups will be flexible, and participants will be welcome to work on multiple topics throughout the course of the event. With this in mind, participants are invited to suggest for potential topics and lines of enquiry in the registration form below. The hackathon will include two keynote lectures by Thomas Smits/Melvin Wevers and Matteo Valleriani. The international conference “Transmedia History”—organised by the Impresso project (https://impresso-project.ch/) and the University of Lausanne’s History Department (https://www.unil.ch/hist/home.html)—will gather scholars from various backgrounds around this question to exchange views on new prospects opened by digitisation and digital tools to carry out transmedia research. Media history is composed of a myriad of parallel histories, which makes comparisons difficult (Fickers 2018, 121). Research in the field has indeed long focused on single types of media (newspapers, television, radio, …) or single institutions within their national contexts. In the mid-2000s however, the transnational turn—which spread across all historical disciplines—allowed for new trends in research objectives to emerge (Bourdon 2008; Vallotton and Nicoli 2021). Research scopes overcame previous temporal and spatial frameworks and thereby became less driven by institutional perspectives than by contents and their circulation. Moreover, this new focus on transnational perspectives enlarged its scope to encompass a wider range of topics within media studies, such as technologies and communication. The development of the history of communication, cultural industries, techniques, and international relations all contributed to a form of décloisonnement or decompartmentalisation, that paved the way for a more comprehensive history of media systems (Mattelart 2002). These new approaches were made possible most notably by mass digitisation of media sources and the improvement of their online accessibility to researchers. International research networks gathered around such transnational ambitions. The first engaged with the history of the book (Society for the History of Authorship, Reading and Publishing - SHARP, https://sharpweb.org/) and the history of television (European Television History Network - ETHN, (Post)Socialist Television History Network), while, later on, other groups broached the radio (Transnational Radio Encounters - TRE, http://www.transnationalradio.org/) and the press (Transnational Network for the Study of the Press in Foreign Languages - Transfopress, https://www.chcsc.uvsq.fr/transfopress-transnational-network-for-the-study-… ). The transnational turn was a major breakthrough that resulted in important publications (see for example Mollier and Lyon 2012 for the book; Fickers and Johnson 2012 for the television; Badenoch, Fickers and Henrich-Franke 2013 for radio and a global history of French-speaking press which is currently in the making). It remains, however, that research in media history continues to face borders it has not managed to cross yet: beyond geographical borders, those between media institutions and between different types of media remain mostly uncrossed (Cronqvist and Hilgert 2017, 134). This challenge gave the impulse for the establishment of the Entangled Media Histories (EMHIS, https://emhis.blogg.lu.se/) network in 2013. In a milestone article published in 2017, Marie Cronqvist and Christoph Hilgert—both members of EMHIS—defined the concept of entangled histories “as a means of better understanding the dynamic interconnectedness of media across semiotic, technological, institutional and political boundaries in history” (Cronqvist et Hilgert 2017, 130). Rather than accumulating histories of different media, they advocated for a focus on the elements that bridge them. This idea has a certain genealogy (Müller 2000) and theoretical debates have also broached the matter. This perspective was indeed articulated in different ways depending on the historical subdiscipline (global history, history of communications, history of techniques, history of cultural industries that incorporate sociological methods, etc.) and the national and linguistic areas. Despite this, a lack of empirical studies persists, primarily due to the enduring division of knowledge and the practical challenges associated with navigating separate, multilingual archives. These factors discourage research that moves beyond compartmentalised, sector-specific approaches. With the exception of a handful of significant works (see most notably Daniel, de Lima Grecco, Tamagne and Zierenberg 2023), monomedia perspectives still dominate the field of media history and too little research is being carried out on exchanges and cooperation between media. This international conference aims to extend those efforts and reflections by inviting papers that prioritise a “transmedia” approach. We seek to present research that explores media history through the simultaneous analysis of different media, thereby emphasising the significance of the media ecosystems in which they co-evolve. A variety of terms have been used in fields like art history, narratology, journalism and communication to explore the interconnectedness of media (cross-media, intermedia, transmedia, etc.). With regards to history, it has occurred to us that “transmedia”—first used in narratology (Jenkins 2006)—was most suited to capture our ambition. We believe that it encompasses the study of various forms of circulation that occur between media (institutional, economic, technological, aesthetic, or content level). In this sense, we argue that “transmedia” refers with greater accuracy to our objective of transcending monomedia units. “Media” is understood in a broad sense here. It includes traditional media (books, posters, press, cinema, radio and television), but also recent ones such as video games, the Internet (e.g. streaming services, podcasts, online news) and social media. The targeted timeframe is extensive, spanning up to the present day. The conference ultimately seeks to present papers that contribute to a decompartmentalised and interconnected history of media. These papers will not only place media history within a broader social, political, and cultural context but also foster a dialogue among them. In this regard, we invite papers that fall within three main research axes: 1. Transmedia circulations, adaptations and reciprocal influences Media history, which was also strongly influenced by the cultural turn of the 1970s and 1980s, has gradually expanded the range of media objects studied and the actors involved (Ruppen Coutaz and Vallotton 2019). The concepts of cultural transfer (Spain and Werner 1988) and acculturation (Dulphy, Frank, Matard-Bonucci and Ory 2010) have proved useful in understanding the international circulation of media productions, which is now increasingly being studied (Mattelart 2014). Such approaches highlight the importance of mediators (Cooper-Richet, Mollier and Silem 2005; Sapiro 2012) and the creation of new transnational circulation spaces. The aim of this initial strand of research is to identify and analyse various factors that facilitate the circulation of content and formats across media and/or that foster interactions between media: * specific actors or media professions such as news and advertising agencies, foreign correspondents, exiles and diaspora representatives active in various media, translators, arrangers, cross-border media; * technological innovations like the telegraph, printing technologies, digital platforms or alternate reality games; * spaces of circulation and exchanges that transcend traditional political and/or linguistic boundaries, such as fictional serial productions, co-productions, joint-broadcasts, technical cooperation associations in the telecommunications field, foreign-language press; * socio-economic factors like concentration and financial globalisation, liberalisation and deregulation, convergence and new consumption habits. It will also involve considering the rhythms and temporality of information, the modes of circulation (e.g. scissors-and-paste journalism), adaptations and reconfigurations (e.g. comics to radio), as well as the transmission of practices and the mobility of people. Finally, it will be important to investigate resistance to these phenomena, in the sense of factors that hinder or trouble transmedia circulation (seasonal and geopolitical conditions, legal matters, censorship, etc.). 2. Intersections, reconfigurations and new media genealogies Traditionally, media history has viewed the advent of new distribution channels as significant ruptures per se marking the beginning of life cycles, each eventually bound to a certain downfall. Against this backdrop, new perspectives rooted in the new media history (Marvin 1990; Gitelman 2006) and media archaeology (Parikka 2012) provided counterpoints. Some have emphasised the relevance of synchronic approaches to study global transformations in the media system, as instanced by the “invention” of the telephone and, more broadly, by the evolution of images transmission. Others have put forth diachronic perspectives. In this vein, the notion of “live” transmission—which had been used to draw a line between television and cinema—provided an entry point for the exploration of media history through the lens of interdependence and competition. Likewise, analyses of “media imaginaries” (imaginaires médiatiques) acknowledged new periodisations that considered, for example, the presence of prophetic literary representations in communication or the recycling of media devices bound to disappear. The goal set by this second strand of research is to provide a refined understanding of how media define themselves in relation to each other. Additionally, it seeks to shine light upon their strategies and motives, in order to appreciate better the complex ties that they maintain (Lits 2005; Letourneux 2017). How was the advent of new media perceived, announced and narrated by existing media? How do media publicise, promote and criticise other media’s content? We aim to identify productions and documentary resources that reflect such intertwined relations, such as anticipation tales, criticism in the press, advertising productions, etc. From a broader viewpoint, these considerations also address the evolution of mentalities towards new media, their gradual integration within the media ecosystem, as well as the reconfigurations of the latter. 3. New approaches, resources and methods In what ways can the mass digitisation of archival collections and the advancement of computational analysis tools foster transmedia research? Computational research methods allow processing large volumes of data and in recent times also increasingly across languages and modalities (e.g. image, text, sound) (Arnold et al. 2021; Smits and Wevers 2023). Techniques such as text reuse detection (Salmi et al. 2020; Düring et al. 2023; Rosson et al. 2023) or the representation of textual elements in multilingual dense vector spaces (embeddings) (Reimers and Gurevych 2019) have been shown to serve large-scale comparisons and content exploration. But how exactly can computational approaches contribute to the advancement of a transmedia media history? The third axis of this conference aims to identify (new and/or digital approaches that facilitate and bolster comparisons. Besides, it seeks to discuss methods which enable analyses of the circulation of contents and formats at scale, in order to enhance our understanding of information fluxes (Lundell, Hannu et alii 2023). Until recently, most projects that embraced data-driven approaches focused on a single media, mostly the press (see for instance Viral Texts Project (https://viraltexts.org/) Oceanic Exchanges (https://oceanicexchanges.org/) Computational History and the Transformation of Public Discourse in Finland (COMHIS)(https://www.kansalliskirjasto.fi/en/projects/comhis-computational-history-and-transformation-public-discourse-finland-1640-1910 ) or Information Highways of the 19th Century (https://www.oru.se/english/research/research-projects/rp/?rdb=p2403) Research now starts to explore how to set up the processing—and how to conduct the analysis—of transmedia data; projects in the likes of TwiXL: An infrastructure for cross-media research on public debates (https://twi-xl.humanities.uva.nl/) Clariah Media Suite (https://mediasuite.clariah.nl/) and Impresso - Media Monitoring of the Past II (https://impresso-project.ch/) all welcomed this goal. We therefore look to understand the effects that the use of digital tools and methodologies has on the research practices of media historians (changes in scale, shifts between close and distant reading). More broadly, we want to question how the facilitated exploration of media sources affects the way we carry out historical research, especially in the field of media history (changing relation to sources, cross-fertilisation of research fields, emergence of new objects of study, new ways of presenting results, etc.). In doing so, we seek to assess the added value of digital tools for media history (Weber, Comte and Vallotton 2023). By embracing a transmedia approach, papers gathered for this conference will: * showcase shared, entangled histories, as well as differences and lesser-known relations and connections between media; * discuss the application of novel methods and tools to conduct historical research and ground a theoretical and empirical reflection on complex interactions between media; * enhance the global understanding of media ecosystem dynamics. This conference seeks to contribute to the clarification and development of a transmedia approach in the historical sciences. It aims to address transmedia from a historical, long-term perspective and, more broadly, to promote a decompartmentalised, entangled history of media. We therefore encourage presentations from junior and senior researchers who wish to share their empirical and methodological approaches in this field. Despite the undeniable growth of this research area, many scholars still struggle to find suitable research-oriented venues to present and publish computational work that does not lose sight of traditional modes of inquiry in the arts and humanities. This is the scholarly niche that the CHR conference aims to fill. More precisely, the conference aims at 1. Building a community of scholars working on humanities research questions relying on a wide range of computational and quantitative approaches to humanities data in all its forms. We consider this community to be complementary to the digital humanities landscape. 2. Promoting good practices through sharing “research stories”. Anne Frank scholarly edition now available in English

Dear colleagues, Some of you might be interested to hear that our TEI-based digital scholarly edition of Anne Frank's manuscripts is now also available in English. It includes her Diary, The Back House (the novel into which she set out to rewrite the diary), her collection of Tales, the unfinished novel Cady's Life and her Book of Beautiful Sentences (inspiring fragments that she copied from her reading). The edition provides extensive historical and textual commentary, context information and background essays. It can be accessed at https://annefrankmanuscripts.org/. Unfortunately, the copyright restrictions are the same as those for the Dutch edition we announced a few years ago. The edition is not accessible from most English-speaking countries, from the Netherlands, France and Spain and from quite a number of other countries. That's also the reason why we cannot publish the XML files. The CLS INFRA Fellowship Programme provides access to a wide range of data, tools and knowledge. Scholars from literary studies or with an interest in Computational Literary Studies methods are invited to apply for a fellowship grant in one of our infrastructure providers. Successful applicants will not only obtain free-of-charge physical access to the infrastructure, but in the context of the overall project they will become part of the larger CLS community. By responding to one of our calls, applicants may have the opportunity to: * Interact with experts; * Receive advice on ongoing projects; * Learn how to use the ecosystem of data, tools and standards; * Assemble new literary corpora; * Profit from hands-on training and support. * Fellowships grants will cover housing and subsistence costs as well as travel to and from the host institution. The CLS INFRA Fellowships are funded by the European Union under the rules of transnational access. CLS INFRA fellowship grants will typically cover travel and subsistence costs. Successful applicants are expected to join the chosen infrastructure for a period of 4 to 12 weeks. However, shorter residencies will be also taken into consideration. This research is characterized by the use of formal methods and the construction of explicit, computational models. This includes quantitative, statistical approaches, but also more generally computational methods for processing and analyzing data, as well as theoretical reflections on these approaches. Despite the undeniable growth of this research area, many scholars still struggle to find suitable research-oriented venues to present and publish computational work that does not lose sight of traditional modes of inquiry in the arts and humanities. This is the scholarly niche that the CHR conference aims to fill. More precisely, the conference aims at 1. Building a community of scholars working on humanities research questions relying on a wide range of computational and quantitative approaches to humanities data in all its forms. We consider this community to be complementary to the digital humanities landscape. We actively seek, welcome, and encourage people with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and identities to join. This includes, but is not limited to, scholars from underrepresented groups, different academic paths, and those who are contributing novel perspectives to the computational humanities landscape. 2. Promoting good practices through sharing “research stories”. Such good practices may include, for instance, the publication of code and data in order to support transparency and replication of studies; pre-registering research design to present theoretical justification, hypotheses, and proposed statistical analysis; or a redesign of the reviewing process for interdisciplinary studies that rely on computational approaches to answer questions relevant to the humanities. ### Topics of interest We invite original research papers from a wide range of topics, including -- but not limited to -- the following: - Applications of statistical methods and machine learning to process, enrich and analyse humanities data, including new media and cultural heritage data; - Hypothesis-driven humanities research, simulations and generative models; - Development of new quantitative and empirical methods for humanities research; - Modeling bias, uncertainty, and conflicting interpretation in the humanities; - Evaluation methods, evaluation data sets and development of standards; - Formal, statistical or quantitative evaluation of categorization / periodization; - Theoretical frameworks and epistemology for quantitative methods and computational humanities approaches; - Translation and transfer of methods from other disciplines, approaches to bridge humanistic and statistical interpretations; - Visualisation, dissemination (incl. The USC Mellon Humanities in a Digital World Program<https://dornsife.usc.edu/digitalhumanities/> and the Ahmanson Lab<https://polymathic.usc.edu/ahmanson-lab> of the Sidney Harman Academy for Polymathic Study in the USC Libraries invite applications for the second annual Immersive Technologies and Cultural Heritage (ITCH) Symposium. The symposium will take place on Friday, September 20, and Saturday, September 21, at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. We seek innovative projects rooted in the humanities or humanistic social sciences that rely on immersive technologies (including but not limited to augmented reality, mixed reality, virtual reality, photogrammetry or 3D modeling) to enable close engagement with cultural heritage materials, or open new possibilities for research, teaching, and learning. We particularly seek projects that realize the benefits of working at the intersection of digital technologies and the liberal arts. Participants will: * Pre-circulate materials related to their current project (such as a draft article, website, VR/AR experience, 3D model, or other format) two weeks prior to the symposium. * Give a 10-15-minute presentation summarizing their project’s context, goals, and implications for humanities scholarship at the symposium. * Lead a hands-on project demonstration and engage in conversation with users. * Offer comments on another participant’s pre-circulated project. * Participate in a concluding roundtable discussion of the promise and perils of immersive technologies for humanities research, teaching, and learning. Workshop discussions will foreground interdisciplinary elements and user experience in project development. The Humanities in a Digital World Program at USC will provide round-trip domestic economy airfare, 3 nights lodging at a hotel near USC in downtown Los Angeles, and up to $200 in reimbursement for ground travel to and from the airport. This time it is dedicated to computational research of dialogues in film adaptations of literature, and also oftheir translations to other languages. The speakers are Agata Hołobut and Jan Rybicki, both from the Institute ofEnglish Studies at the Jagiellonian University. Title: With Pride, not Prejudice: on Dialogue in FilmAdaptations of Literature Abstract: The study of film adaptations of literature has gonethrough a variety of approaches from the early evaluative reviews of the 1950s through comparative analyses of the1970s to a more intertextual view of the phenomenon starting with the 1990s. Our research looks both into quantitativeand qualitative discussion of film dialogue and its translations and into the part that words play in film portrayalsof various historical eras. This is especially important in films that adapt (or translate) literature as much of theviewers’ expectations is based on their perception of the literary original; at the same time, modern perception of thenovels’ and films’ historical settings also come into play. Quantitative approaches allow a whole seriesof comparisons between the dialogues of novels and their film “translations” (and into translations of that dialogueinto other languages), from simple percentages of direct usage of dialogue (and narrative) to stylometric analyses ofword frequencies and other linguistic items. But quantitative analysis can also look at visual elements such ascharacter screen time or camera angle; this can then be compared between various adaptations of the same text andbetween the adaptations and the literary text in search for similarities and differences of perspective. We illustrate our research with examples from a variety of adaptations of literature, with particular focus on variousPride and Prejudice films (1940, 2005) and TV miniseries (1980, 1995). Based on selected scenes taken from the fourproductions we show how recycled, reworked and re-vamped fictionalised dialogue interacts with other elements of thefilm’s structure to create different interpretations of apparently identical literary characters. The central task of the candidate is to develop and populate an open-access online database for the project starting from the collected dataset in spreadsheet format. As part of the research unit based at the ISIG, the candidate will be responsible for the planned database of the ERC project HOLYLAB. The project studies the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land, a thirteenth-century organisation funded to maintain the Holy Sepulchre and the friars’ presence in the Holy Land thanks to a complex system of alms gathering that involved worldwide branches called Commissariats. HOLYLAB investigates the Custody’s economic organisation through its account books for the period 1600 and 1800. One of the project’s main objectives is to offer free access to the data on money, costs, mobility, and consumption extracted from the accounting documents of Franciscan Commissariats. The candidate will work with the spreadsheet dataset collected by the research unit based at Roma Tre and from these develop the database through a DBMS and the Wordpress platform hosted on the Roma Tre servers. The candidate therefore will also use web publishing tools and coordinate with the IT Office of Roma Tre University. If possible, the candidate will produce visualisations from the database to be published on its website. The deadline to submit the Application is June 28th, 2024, 2pm CEST Co-funded under the European Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions COFUND and coordinated by the Università di Bologna in collaboration with the Universities of the Emilia-Romagna Region (Italy), the FutureData4EU project provides 53 positions for doctoral programs in seven thematic areas related to Big Data: * Health; * Culture, Creativity and Inclusive Society; * Civil Security for Society; * Digital, Industry and Space; * Climate, Energy and Mobility; * Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment; * Enabling Technologies. This time, we'll have Prof. Lev Manovich (CUNY), a prominent theorist of digital culture and the author of the term 'Cultural Analytics'. One of the dreams of information and communication technologies is that of equitable and open access to information, to services, and to opportunities. We know, however, that this dream is not always reflected in reality - especially in the digital humanities, where the expertise, skills and knowledge of a broad range of sectors, disciplines and organisations inform everything we do. It is necessary to constantly challenge our own claims and understanding of inclusivity. This inevitably involves exploring the situated and intersectional inequities of technological systems, and the cultures and societies that build them. The event will examine inclusive approaches to digital humanities research and practice broadly conceptualised, with an emphasis on intersectional approach to examining barriers to inclusion within different national, organisational, and disciplinary contexts. We are pleased to announce that our keynote roundtable will be moderated by Aoibhie McCarthy, artistic director at Sample Studios, who will be in conversation with Valerie Byrne (Cork City Council), Melissa Terras (University of Edinburgh), and Francesca Farmer (Royal Albert Memorial Museum/University of Exeter). The event will be held in-person at University College Cork, with portions of the event available to view online. The fee for attending the event in-person will be £35. CfP: European Cultural Memory in its Digitalization - Inventing Cultural Memory in the 21st Century?, Graz 6./7.11.2024

Dear European Digital Humanists, we extended the deadline for proposal submissions for the international conference *"European Cultural Memory in its Digitalization - Inventing Cultural Memory in the 21st Century?"* to *19.5.2024* The concept of cultural heritage has been in circulation for decades (e.g. UNESCO convention 1972) if not centuries (e.g. discussion on repatriation of artworks at the Congress of Vienna, 1815), in scientific, cultural and policy contexts. The extensive digitization of collections in archives, museums, and libraries, as well as the digital dissemination and mediation of cultural artefacts has also been framed as supporting the process of Europeanization. For instance, the mission of Europeana documents this interest in creating a European cultural identity (Capurro 2023). The very idea of a European heritage is embedded with the vision and policies of the European Union, fostering a shared European identity and memory on the grounds of a common culture and history as well as the rejection of the violent experiences of the 20th century (Radonic 2023). The conference “European Cultural Memory in its Digitalization” focuses on the intersection of cultural heritage, digital transformation and Europeanisation processes, also responding to the recent dynamic trends in Artificial Intelligence. It aims to question and problematize dimensions of cultural heritage from the European past in the context of contemporary social, cultural and technological transformations. It thus takes into account both the transformative (technological) and representational (discursive) potentials of digitalization of cultural heritage. This conference will discuss the European and national cultural and research policy strategies in the context of cultural heritage and its digital transformation in general and through the lens of specific projects engaging in this process. Furthermore, recent collaborations between digital humanities and cultural heritage organizations and researchers will be discussed. By contextualizing heritage in the European digital society agenda, general digital transformation processes, datafication and artificial intelligence developments, we will drive forward current debates in Digital Humanities and Memory Studies. The aim of the conference is to bring together researchers and scholars from various disciplines and reflect on the state of research in the field, opening up fresh discussions and dialogue. We invite you to submit contributions, in particular on the following themes: * National/transnational/European policies, identities and the digital cultural heritage field * (strategies, funding, trends, transformations, etc.); Promises and expectations of digitalization, datafication and artificial intelligence in the context of the cultural heritage of Europe and the Europeanization processes; * Research and reflections about relevant actors, institutions, networks and actants in these processes (GLAMs, universities, NGOs, independent initiatives, commons, etc.); * Different types of digital cultural heritage (including archaeological, architectural, intangible cultural heritage, moveable cultural relics and museums, ancient books and archives, internet and new media digital artistic and creative content) and their material, infrastructural and discursive dimensions. * Transformation of cultural memory in the age of digitalization. We also encourage contributions that explore other related topics, including social, historical, cultural, technological, political, educational, ecological, communicational, organizational, critical, academic and other dimensions at the intersection of European memory studies and digital cultural heritage research.
