[Sorry for cross-posting] HISEMOTIONS 2026 focuses on emotion detection in Early Modern Spanish epistolary texts (16th–17th centuries). Unlike most existing emotion detection tasks that target modern languages or contemporary genres (e.g., social media, reviews), this challenge explores historical linguistic variation and semantic shift, raising a new challenge for NLP systems. Participants are tasked with developing systems that automatically identify emotional content in fragments of historical Spanish letters, addressing issues such as diachronic language variation, historical semantic shifting, and domain adaptation. Dear colleagues, Sorry for crossposting. We are very happy to introduce our Call for Papers for a Special Issue in Philosophy & Digitality to you. This Special Issue has a focus on "Scope and limits of digital methods within philosophy (and text-oriented humanities)": The impact of digital methods (including the Digital Humanities) in philosophy and further text-oriented areas can be welcomed as a promise of computational enhancement, it can be felt as ‘sting of the digital’ (Krämer 2025) or can be critically interpreted as a positivistic displacement of the traditional humanities. We have—to some extent—small knowledge about the philosophy and theory of the digital. But what do we know about doing philosophy under the methodological conditions of digitality—including or excluding methods of the Digital Humanities? This Special Issue aims to bring four perspectives together under the general heading of “Digital Philosophy”: 1. Is there a praxeology of philosophy done digitally yet? What are concrete applications of computational methods towards genuinely philosophical research questions? 2. What is the current state of the critical epistemological discussion of digital methods in philosophy and text-oriented humanities? 3. What about the role of digital research infrastructures and working environments as prerequisites of discovery and knowledge? 4. What are the changing necessities of digital skills and competences used in philosophy and text-oriented disciplines? Of special interest is the correlation between these aspects. The Canada Impact+ Research Chairs program represents a $1 billion investment over 12 years from the federal government to support institutions in attracting internationally renowned researchers currently living and residing outside Canada. February 2026) Logo Commission Internationale de la Diplomatique Contact: didip(a)uni-graz.at https://didip.hypotheses.org/conference-2026 Presentation English In celebration of the 200th birthday of Theodor Sickel (1826-1908), the conference will focus on developments in the methodology of diplomatics, discussing which methods fit to what kind of diplomatic material and research question, collecting exceptional results of the application of existing methods, confronting old and new methods, reflecting on how to evaluate digital methods and their impact on the current diplomatics methodologies, etc. By discussing applications and effects of individual methods applied in diplomatics research, we hope to refine and renew the general methodological framework of diplomatics. Diplomatics is an old field of research. Its main methodology is usually centered around the concept of discrimen veri ac falsi and was designed in the bella diplomatica of the 17th century by Dom Jean Mabillon. He introduced comparison of contemporary habits of authentication, writing, or linguistic style as the main method of diplomatics. Palaeography and textual analysis (“diplomatic discourse”) are at the core of diplomatics methodology. This includes, for instance, the creation of typologies describing the expectations for individual documents. However, the long history of diplomatics has seen changes, additions and shifts in its methodology: Sickel’s concept of “Kanzleimäßigkeit” narrowed the method from a generic comparison to the detailed analysis of chancery practices and the individuals creating the charters, which also has a strong tradition in Spanish diplomatics. Critical scholarly editing is an independent strand of diplomatics, which combines the methodologies for discrimen veri ac falsi with methods of textual criticism: reflecting on the tradition of the texts, establishment of a reliable text, and provision of abstracts of the content. The crisis of diplomatics in the 1960’s (Bartoloni, Bautier, Fichtenau, Petrucci) fostered the search for the application of diplomatics methods to other material than charters and to other temporal contexts than the middle ages. Comparative methods have been refined in Pierre Chaplais’ work on different English chanceries. Alessandro Pratesi brought forward social and intellectual context as an analytical framework for diplomatics, while still focussing on the representational and probative function of the charters and the formal rigor in individual analysis. From the 1990s onwards, scholars such as Peter Rück, Olivier Guyotjeannin, and Laurent Morelle have pushed forward the conceptualization of diplomatics as cultural history and thus added the analysis of cultural practices around the act of documentation and the use of charters to the methods of diplomatics. While Attilio Bartoli Langeli promoted the historical rooting of the discipline, Giovanna Nicolaj has pushed the legal framework of diplomatics to the foreground. The most recent contributions to diplomatics methodology are sparked by the digitisation of archival holdings and scholarly engagement with them. Digital diplomatics in this sense is searching for appropriate representations of parchments, seals, texts and the actions represented by them, and the analytical tools that open new perspectives. Luciana Duranti has used the “digital diplomatics” label to transfer analytical criteria of diplomatics like authenticity to archival science to understand digital documentary practices better. This conference will study the development and the state of the art of diplomatic methodology in all its facets. It has a number of ramifications in a variety of disciplines, including software studies, critical code studies, literary analysis, digital humanities, and game studies. For this reason, we have recently founded a new interdisciplinary journal, “Replication Research (R2)”, which is now open for submissions. Existing benchmarks primarily deal with semantic table interpretation or reasoning over tables for question answering, leaving a gap in evaluating models that integrate tabular and textual information, perform joint information extraction across modalities, or can automatically detect inconsistencies between modalities. This workshop aims to provide a forum for exchanging ideas between the NLP community working on open information extraction and the vibrant Semantic Web community working on the core challenge of matching tabular data to Knowledge Graphs, on populating knowledge graphs using texts and on reasoning across text, tabular data and knowledge graphs. The workshop also targets researchers focusing on the intersection of learning over structured data and information retrieval, for example, in retrieval augmented generation (RAG) and question answering (QA) systems. Hence, the goal of the workshop is to connect researchers and trigger collaboration opportunities by bringing together views from the Semantic Web, NLP, database, and IR disciplines. All accepted papers will be presented as posters or as oral talks. **TRIPLET Challenge:** In recent years, the research community has shown increasing interest in the joint understanding of text and tabular data, often, for performing tasks such as question answering or fact checking where evidences can be found in texts and tables. Hence, various benchmarks have been developed for jointly querying tabular data and textual documents in domains such as finance, scientific publications, and open domain. While benchmarks for triple extraction from text for Knowledge Graph construction and semantic annotation of tabular data exist in the community, there remains a gap in benchmarks and tasks that specifically address the joint extraction of triples from text and tables by leveraging complementary clues across these different modalities. The TRIPLET 2026 challenge is proposing three sub-tasks and benchmarks for understanding the complementarity between tables, texts, and knowledge graphs, and in particular to propose a joint knowledge extraction and reconciliation process. #Sub-Task 1: Assessing the Relatedness Between Tables and Textual Passages The goal of this task is to assess the relatedness between tables and textual passages (within documents and across documents). For this purpose, we have constructed LATTE (Linking Across Table and Text for Relatedness Evaluation), a human annotated dataset comprising table–text pairs with relatedness labels. LATTE consists of 7,674 unique tables and 41,880 unique textual paragraphs originating from 3,826 distinct Wikipedia pages. Each text paragraph is drawn from the same or contextually linked pages as the corresponding table, rather than being artificially generated. LATTE provides a challenging benchmark for cross-modal reasoning by requiring classification of related and unrelated table–text pairs. Unlike prior resources centered on table-to-text generation or text retrieval, LATTE emphasizes fine-grained semantic relatedness between structured and unstructured data. The Figure below provides an example, using a web-annotation tool we developed, of how we identify the relatedness between the sentence containing the entity AirPort Extreme 802.11n (highlighted in Orange) and the data table providing information about output power and frequency for this entity. Participants are provided with tables and textual passages that would need to be ranked. The evaluation will use metrics such as P@k, R@k and F1@k. Go to https://www.codabench.org/competitions/12776/ and enroll to participate in this Task. #Sub-Task 2: Joint Relation Extraction Between Texts and Tables The goal of this task is to automatically extract knowledge jointly from tables and related texts. For this purpose, we created ReTaT, a dataset that can be used to train and evaluate systems for extracting such relations. This dataset is composed of (table, surrounding text) pairs extracted from Wikipedia pages and has been manually annotated with relation triples. ReTaT is organized in three subsets with distinct characteristics: domain (business, telecommunication and female celebrities), size (from 50 to 255 pairs), language (English vs French), type of relations (data vs object properties), close vs open list of relation, size of the surrounding text (paragraph vs full page). We then assessed its quality and suitability for the joint table-text relation extraction task using Large Language Models (LLMs). Given a Wikipedia page containing texts and tables and a list of predicates defined in Wikidata, a participant system should extract triples composed of mentions located partly in the text and partly in the table and disambiguated with entities and predicates identified in the Wikidata reference knowledge graph. For example, in the Figure below, an annotation triple <Q13567390, P2109, 24.57> is associated with mentions highlighted in orange (subject), blue (predicate) and green (object) to annotate the document available at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AirPort_Extreme. Similar to the Text2KGBench evaluation (https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-031-47243-5_14) and because the set of triples are not exhaustive for a given sentence, to avoid false negatives, we follow a locally closed approach by only considering the relations that are part of the ground truth. The evaluation then uses metrics such as P, R and F1. Go to https://www.codabench.org/competitions/12936/ and enroll to participate in this Task. # Sub-Task 3: Detecting Inconsistencies Between Texts, Tables and Knowledge Graphs The goal of this task is to check the consistency of knowledge extracted from tables and texts with existing triples in the Wikidata knowledge graph. Different kind of inconsistencies will be considered in this task. Participants to this task will be able to report on their findings in their system paper. See the Figure at https://ecladatta.github.io/images/triplet_annotation_tool.png # Data & Evaluation: For the first 2 sub-tasks, we have released a training dataset with ground-truth annotations, enabling participant teams to develop machine learning-based systems, and in particular for training purposes and for hyperparameter optimizations and internal validations. A separate blind test dataset will remain private and be used for ranking the submissions. Participants should register on Codabench and then enroll for each sub-task separately (Task 1: https://www.codabench.org/competitions/12776/ and Task 2: https://www.codabench.org/competitions/12936/) Each team are allowed a limited number of daily submissions, and the highest achieved accuracy will be reported as the team's final result. February 2026) Logo Commission Internationale de la Diplomatique Contact: didip(a)uni-graz.at https://didip.hypotheses.org/conference-2026 Presentation English In celebration of the 200th birthday of Theodor Sickel (1826-1908), the conference will focus on developments in the methodology of diplomatics, discussing which methods fit to what kind of diplomatic material and research question, collecting exceptional results of the application of existing methods, confronting old and new methods, reflecting on how to evaluate digital methods and their impact on the current diplomatics methodologies, etc. By discussing applications and effects of individual methods applied in diplomatics research, we hope to refine and renew the general methodological framework of diplomatics. Diplomatics is an old field of research. Its main methodology is usually centered around the concept of discrimen veri ac falsi and was designed in the bella diplomatica of the 17th century by Dom Jean Mabillon. He introduced comparison of contemporary habits of authentication, writing, or linguistic style as the main method of diplomatics. Palaeography and textual analysis (“diplomatic discourse”) are at the core of diplomatics methodology. This includes, for instance, the creation of typologies describing the expectations for individual documents. However, the long history of diplomatics has seen changes, additions and shifts in its methodology: Sickel’s concept of “Kanzleimäßigkeit” narrowed the method from a generic comparison to the detailed analysis of chancery practices and the individuals creating the charters, which also has a strong tradition in Spanish diplomatics. Critical scholarly editing is an independent strand of diplomatics, which combines the methodologies for discrimen veri ac falsi with methods of textual criticism: reflecting on the tradition of the texts, establishment of a reliable text, and provision of abstracts of the content. The crisis of diplomatics in the 1960’s (Bartoloni, Bautier, Fichtenau, Petrucci) fostered the search for the application of diplomatics methods to other material than charters and to other temporal contexts than the middle ages. Comparative methods have been refined in Pierre Chaplais’ work on different English chanceries. Alessandro Pratesi brought forward social and intellectual context as an analytical framework for diplomatics, while still focussing on the representational and probative function of the charters and the formal rigor in individual analysis. From the 1990s onwards, scholars such as Peter Rück, Olivier Guyotjeannin, and Laurent Morelle have pushed forward the conceptualization of diplomatics as cultural history and thus added the analysis of cultural practices around the act of documentation and the use of charters to the methods of diplomatics. While Attilio Bartoli Langeli promoted the historical rooting of the discipline, Giovanna Nicolaj has pushed the legal framework of diplomatics to the foreground. The most recent contributions to diplomatics methodology are sparked by the digitisation of archival holdings and scholarly engagement with them. Digital diplomatics in this sense is searching for appropriate representations of parchments, seals, texts and the actions represented by them, and the analytical tools that open new perspectives. Luciana Duranti has used the “digital diplomatics” label to transfer analytical criteria of diplomatics like authenticity to archival science to understand digital documentary practices better. This conference will study the development and the state of the art of diplomatic methodology in all its facets. Diplomatics is an old field of research. Its main methodology is usually centered around the concept of discrimen veri ac falsi and was designed in the bella diplomatica of the 17th century by Dom Jean Mabillon. He introduced comparison of contemporary habits of authentication, writing, or linguistic style as the main method of diplomatics. Palaeography and textual analysis (“diplomatic discourse”) are at the core of diplomatics methodology. This includes, for instance, the creation of typologies describing the expectations for individual documents. However, the long history of diplomatics has seen changes, additions and shifts in its methodology: Sickel’s concept of “Kanzleimäßigkeit” narrowed the method from a generic comparison to the detailed analysis of chancery practices and the individuals creating the charters, which also has a strong tradition in Spanish diplomatics. Critical scholarly editing is an independent strand of diplomatics, which combines the methodologies for discrimen veri ac falsi with methods of textual criticism: reflecting on the tradition of the texts, establishment of a reliable text, and provision of abstracts of the content. The crisis of diplomatics in the 1960’s (Bartoloni, Bautier, Fichtenau, Petrucci) fostered the search for the application of diplomatics methods to other material than charters and to other temporal contexts than the middle ages. Comparative methods have been refined in Pierre Chaplais’ work on different English chanceries. Alessandro Pratesi brought forward social and intellectual context as an analytical framework for diplomatics, while still focussing on the representational and probative function of the charters and the formal rigor in individual analysis. From the 1990s onwards, scholars such as Peter Rück, Olivier Guyotjeannin, and Laurent Morelle have pushed forward the conceptualization of diplomatics as cultural history and thus added the analysis of cultural practices around the act of documentation and the use of charters to the methods of diplomatics. While Attilio Bartoli Langeli promoted the historical rooting of the discipline, Giovanna Nicolaj has pushed the legal framework of diplomatics to the foreground. The most recent contributions to diplomatics methodology are sparked by the digitisation of archival holdings and scholarly engagement with them. Digital diplomatics in this sense is searching for appropriate representations of parchments, seals, texts and the actions represented by them, and the analytical tools that open new perspectives. Luciana Duranti has used the “digital diplomatics” label to transfer analytical criteria of diplomatics like authenticity to archival science to understand digital documentary practices better. This conference will study the development and the state of the art of diplomatic methodology in all its facets. We are pleased to announce the online workshop Large Language METAPHORS: New Trends in Computational Approaches to Metaphorical Expressions, to be held on 5th March, organised by the Neurolinguistics and Experimental Pragmatics Laboratory (NEPLab) and supported by the ERC project “PROcessing MEtaphors: Neurochronometry, Acquisition and DEcay” (PROMENADE). The workshop adopts an interdisciplinary perspective, bringing together linguistics, computational linguistics, and psycholinguistics. The conference will take place from 15 to 19 September 2026 at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków (Poland), and is co-organized by the Jagiellonian Centre of Digital Humanities, the Institute of Polish Language of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and the University of Wrocław. Dear all, Applications for the Professional Development and Specialization Course “Accessible Textual Heritage” are open until February 8th. The course will take place at the University of Verona and online (blended mode) from March 23, 2026, to April 30, 2026. The course consists of 25 hours of training in the first week (March 23-27, 2026), with theoretical explanations and practical workshops, and the completion of a final project, with presentation of the results to a team of experts in the field (April 30, 2026). LT4HALA 2026 follows LT4HALA 2020, 2022, 2024 that were organized in the context of LREC 2020, LREC 2022 and LREC-COLING 2024, respectively. Despite the current availability of large collections of digitized texts written in historical languages, such interdisciplinary collaboration is still hampered by the limited availability of annotated linguistic resources for most of the historical languages. Creating such resources is a challenge and an obligation for LTs, both to support historical linguistic research with the most updated technologies and to preserve those precious linguistic data that survived from past times. Relevant topics for the workshop include, but are not limited to: creation and annotation of linguistic resources (both lexical and textual); the role of digital infrastructures, such as CLARIN <https://www.clarin.eu/>, in supporting research based on language resources for historical and ancient languages; handling spelling variation; detection and correction of OCR errors; deciphering; morphological/syntactic/semantic analysis of textual data; adaptation of tools to address diachronic/diatopic/diastratic variation in texts; teaching ancient languages with LTs; NLP-driven theoretical studies in historical linguistics; NLP-driven analysis of literary ancient texts; evaluation of LTs designed for historical and ancient languages; LLMs for the automatic analysis of ancient texts. SHARED TASKS LT4HALA 2026 will host: the 4th edition of EvaLatin <https://circse.github.io/LT4HALA/2026/EvaLatin>, a campaign entirely devoted to the evaluation of NLP tools for Latin. This new edition will focus on two tasks: dependency parsing and Named Entity Recognition. Dependency parsing will be based on the Universal Dependencies framework. the 5th edition of EvaHan <https://circse.github.io/LT4HALA/2026/EvaHan>, the campaign for the evaluation of NLP tools for Ancient Chinese. EvaHan 2026 will focus on Ancient Chinese OCR (Optical Character Recognition) Evaluation. the 2nd edition of EvaCun <https://circse.github.io/LT4HALA/2026/EvaCun>, the campaign for the evaluation of Ancient Cuneiform Languages, with shared tasks on transliteration normalization, morphological analysis and lemmatization, Named Entity Recognition of Akkadian and/or Sumerian. SUBMISSIONS Submissions should be 4 to 8 pages in length and follow the LREC stylesheet (see below). The maximum number of pages excludes potential Ethics Statements and discussion on Limitations, acknowledgements and references, as well as data and code availability statements. Appendices or supplementary material are not permitted during the initial submission phase, as papers should be self-contained and reviewable on their own. Papers must be of original, previously unpublished work. Papers must be anonymized to support double-blind reviewing. Submissions thus must not include authors’ names and affiliations. The submissions should also avoid links to non-anonymized repositories: the code should be either submitted as supplementary material in the final version of the paper, or as a link to an anonymized repository (e.g., Anonymous GitHub or Anonym Share). Papers that do not conform to these requirements will be rejected without review. Submissions should follow the LREC stylesheet, which is available on the LREC 2026 website on the Author’s kit page <https://lrec2026.info/authors-kit/>. Each paper will be reviewed by three independent reviewers. Accepted papers will appear in the workshop proceedings, which include both oral and poster papers in the same format. Determination of the presentation format (oral vs. poster) is based solely on an assessment of the optimal method of communication (more or less interactive), given the paper content. As for the shared tasks, participants will be required to submit a technical report for each task (with all the related sub-tasks) they took part in. Technical reports will be included in the proceedings as short papers: the maximum length is 4 pages (excluding references) and they should follow the LREC 2026 official format. Reports will receive a light review (we will check for the correctness of the format, the exactness of results and ranking, and overall exposition). All participants will have the possibility to present their results at the workshop. Reports of the shared tasks are not anonymous. The event will be held on 25 and 26 May 2026 at the University of Genoa. The conference aims to explore the potential, challenges, and implications of digital technologies in the various fields of arts, linguistics, literature, and education. The initiative aims to encourage interdisciplinary dialogue and promote new connections between PhD students from different research backgrounds, in a manner fully consistent with the vocation of Digital Humanities. Call for Proposals: Living Books about History

‘Living Books about History <https://www.livingbooksabouthistory.ch/en/>’ is a collection of digital anthologies on current research topics. Each volume will feature an essay written by the editors as well as a selection of annotated texts and research resources. These contributions may include online resources such as open source articles, images, films, websites, or sound recordings. The project offers an innovative form of scientific publication that experiments with the possibilities offered by digital media. It revives the anthology format by virtually compiling scientific papers alongside their sources and resources. Readers can participate in ‘Living Books about History’ by suggesting further contributions, which will be added to the table of contents after approval by the editors. ‘Living Books about History’ showcases noteworthy and hitherto neglected scientific publications and sources on current topics. The selection made by the editors serves as a filter that distinguishes remarkable contributions from the mass of information available online. The project aims to reinforce the principles of ‘Open Science’. The 12 volumes published to date are available online, in both English and a second language. Types of Proposals Expected: infoclio.ch is launching a new series of ‘Living Books about History’ in 2026. The collection publishes research primarily in the field of historical sciences but welcomes diverse perspectives from other disciplinary fields. Proposals may address a variety of topics, without chronological, or geographical restrictions. The selected sources and scientific papers shed light on the respective research topics from different perspectives. ‘Living Books about History’ can have different objectives, such as providing a historiographical overview of a research trend, defining the contours of a new area of study, offering an introduction to a topic, illustrating different ways of interpreting a specific corpus of sources, or analyzing the challenges of a paradigm shift. Format of ‘Living Books about History’: Each volume consists of an original introduction of 20,000 to 40,000 characters and a selection of 20 to 30 resources already available online, accompanied by a brief commentary. Each volume is assigned a DOI and an ISBN. Submission of Proposals: This call for proposals is open to advanced researchers. We welcome proposals for volumes in the form of an abstract of no more than 4,000 characters outlining the theme and focus of the project, 2-3 examples of online resources to be included in the anthology, and a short CV of the editors. Proposals may be submitted in English, French, or German. The deadline for submitting proposals is March 20, 2026. Notification of accepted proposals will be sent on April 2, 2026. I gladly share with you the call for papers and panels of the third Edition of the International Workshop of Semantic Digital Humanities, that will be held on May 10th or 11th in Dubrovnik, Croatia, co-located with the Extended Semantic Web Conference (ESWC) CFP: Exploration, analysis, and preservation of the rich cultural and historical tapestry of the world are essential for our understanding of humanity's past and shaping our future. In recent years, there has been increased interest in the creation and application of Ontologies, Knowledge Graphs, and other Semantic Web Technologies within Cultural Heritage (CH) and Digital Humanities (DH). However, to date, the distinct areas of expertise, methodologies and traditions across the fields have led to a noticeable gap between tech solutions and humanities’ needs. The aim of the International Workshop of Semantic Digital Humanities (SemDH) is to bridge this division and encourage closer collaboration and networking across diverse fields. To accomplish this goal, we invite all members of Semantic Web, CH and DH communities actively involved in the development of systematic approaches and advanced technologies for handling heterogeneous, diverse and challenging humanities data. This includes, but is not limited to, constructing and utilizing of knowledge graphs for the humanities, extracting and representing knowledge from historical texts, data linking across disciplines, enriching semantics of historical records and biographies, analyzing social networks, ontology adoption, extension and evaluation for specific domains. In addition, it includes the exploitation of recent technologies, e.g. LLM(s), in the context of semantic technologies, to tackle the diverse challenges associated with working with data in the humanities domain. We welcome presentations that not only focus on technological endeavours but also explore the analysis of CH and DH data landscape through the perspective of philosophical, historical, social, and other research questions. Apart from research, resource and work-in-progress papers, we encourage the audience to submit panel proposals. Extension for ADHO Pedagogy and Training SIG poster slam at DH2026 submissions

Dear colleagues, we are extending the deadline for submissions to the poster slam at DH 2026 for the DH Pedagogy and Training SIG. Please submit proposals by Monday, February 9. Accepted participants will be notified no later than 28 February. Overview The DH Pedagogy and Training SIG (https://adho.org/dh-pedagogy-and-training/) will hold a Pedagogy Poster Slam at the 2026 DH Conference in Daejeon, South Korea. The Pedagogy Poster Slam will take place during the SIG’s reserved slot during one of the conference’s two workshop days, either Monday, 27 July 2026, or Tuesday, 28 July 2026. Posters will either focus on a) a specific assignment for a DH or DH-inflected course or b) an entire course. During the workshop, participants will first participate in the Slam, where they will have a maximum of 120 seconds to discuss one aspect of their assignment or course. Once the participants have all spoken, the rest of the workshop will be devoted to a conventional poster session, where attendees can engage with the presenters at their posters. Presenters will be encouraged to bring print copies of their assignment/syllabus to distribute to attendees. All conference attendees will be welcome to attend the workshop and slam. (Plus, there will be food!) Call for Proposals The SIG Conveners invite all members of the DH community to submit proposals for the Pedagogy Poster Slam. ERC P|RIMA: open position for a data engineer

Dear colleagues, We are pleased to announce the recruitment of a Research Data Mining and Data Engineering Developer (M/F)within the l'ERC PRIMA (Grant Agreement n°101142242), Manuscripts in the Age of Print (1575-1800) <https://prima.hypotheses.org/>. Project overview: The assumption that print production dominated the circulation of literature, science, and music, among other areas, in Early Modern Europe (1575-1800) needs to be challenged. In fact, manuscript production and publication, particularly in Italy, were exceptionally rich but have been neglected in research. The ERC-funded PRIMA project aims to rewrite our understanding of manuscript production and publication in Early Modern Europe. It explores the relationship between text and physical form, highlighting overlooked manuscript culture, and challenging assumptions about the superiority of print over manuscripts. The project focuses on Italy and employs innovative methods to uncover unknown works. Recruitment timeline: Application deadline: 9 February 2026 Interviews: 16 February 2026 Starting date: 1 April 2026 Profile details: The developer (Ingénieur·e d’études) will have three main responsibilities related to the project’s technical infrastructure which includes a PostgreSQL database, a Django application, a REST API, and an editorial platform based on TEI Publisher. 1. Data integration and management The candidate will be responsible for analysing, transforming, and cleaning data (produced by project members and partners) in order to integrate them into the project database in a documented and reproducible manner, in compliance with the database plans and constraints. Special attention will be given to data quality and the identification and removal of duplicates. The candidate will also contribute to the maintenance of the Data Management Plan and to the deposit of datasets on appropriate platforms (Zenodo, Nakala, etc.). 2. Data extraction Using the project database and API, the candidate will extract data in standardised formats to enable their deposit in data repositories as well as their integration into national and international partner repositories, in accordance with the schemas and constraints of these repositories (CIDOC-CRM ; TEI ; EAD etc.). 3. Data mining Based on the project database and API, the candidate will carry out quantitative and qualitative statistical analyses to test the project’s research hypotheses. They will also propose visualisations of the results, ensuring full documentation of the methods used and the reproducibility of analyses and outcomes. CALL FOR PAPERS 3rd Workshop on Computational Methods in the Humanities (COMHUM 2026) ======================================================================== September 9–10, 2026 · University of Lausanne, Switzerland Deadline for submission of abstracts: February 20, 2026 Special track: computation and video games ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Academia and the humanities have never been more digital, which pushes digital humanities to frontiers beyond computational approaches to humanities or the application of humanities research methods to the digital. In this context, the COMHUM workshop series positions itself as an international forum primarily devoted to the following research questions: (1) which formal or computational approaches can help address the particular challenges posed by the growing presence of the digital in humanities, e.g., digital artifacts, software, LLMs, and computer-generated data? In these cases and beyond, (2) which methods are most appropriate to tackle the challenges posed by humanities research and how can they be applied to concrete research questions? The first day will be devoted to the specific topic of computation and video games. This topic explores computational methods for analyzing video games as well as humanities approaches to computation in video games. It has a number of ramifications in a variety of disciplines, including software studies, critical code studies, literary analysis, digital humanities, and game studies. Topics in the special track include, but are not limited to: - Methods for data extraction in video games (e.g. telemetry, assets, models, code) - Computational methods for video game analysis (including spatial, representational and narrative aspects) - Analyses of intersection of computational approaches and the study of video games - Humanities approaches to computation of video games (including software) In the spirit of the previous editions of the COMHUM workshop, the second day will be open to submissions on any topic pertaining to theoretical or applied research on computational methods for humanities research broadly conceived. Dear all, Applications for the *Professional Development and Specialization Course “Accessible Textual Heritage”* are open until *February 8th*. The course will take place at the University of Verona and online (blended mode) from March 23, 2026, to April 30, 2026. The course consists of 25 hours of training in the first week (March 23-27, 2026), with theoretical explanations and practical workshops, and the completion of a final project, with presentation of the results to a team of experts in the field (April 30, 2026). Dear all, Please find below a Call for Papers for the AI for Peace workshop at ICLR in Sao Paolo, Brasil. *Dates* Jan. 30, 2026 Workshop contributions submission deadline Mar. 1, 2026 Decision notification and OpenReview publication Apr. 26 or 27, 2026 Workshop date AI has many historical roots in research for military applications and much of the scientific community remains deeply connected to the surveillance and defense industries. Yet, even today, the military uses of AI are often obscured and many researchers and developers remain unaware of how their work might be deployed in conflicts, and the extent to which they might contribute to intentional harm, including potentially violations of international law. Although AI in conflict and surveillance is a key topic of public and policy debate, there have been no formal spaces for AI researchers themselves within the main machine learning conferences to articulate and discuss their positions towards the weaponization of their research. The AI for Peace workshop @ ICLR 2026 will be a forum to consider both the harms associated with research dissemination and design decisions, and the opportunities for affirmatively building our research and development agenda from the starting position of non-violent harm prevention, research ethics, and respect for international law, including international humanitarian and human rights law. We aim to address the critically under-discussed issue of AI’s dual-use nature, focusing on how machine learning technologies are being adapted for military purposes, potentially without the researchers’ knowledge or consent. While attending to the heightened risks associated with particular areas and systems of research, we will also be collectively thinking through what it looks like to engage productively in research and development activities that considers ethics and international law at its core. Our objectives are to: • Increase transparency about the pipelines through which AI research enters into military and surveillance applications. • Develop collective strategies to address ethical and legal risks as a community of researchers. • Highlight and support research efforts that contribute to peace-building applications, including those helping to surface or elucidate harmful applications of AI. A key avenue of exploration will be to invite parallels between current conversations in AI and similar debates (with longer histories) in other scientific fields, such as genetic biology and nuclear physics; where researchers have grappled with similar ethical challenges and proposed concrete professional responses. Dr. Katrin Rohrbacher (Nürnberg/Erlangen): Measuring Narrative Space: A Computational Study of German and English Prose Fiction In this talk, I will present ongoing work on measuring the notion of narrative space using machine learning methods, specifically by fine-tuning BERT-based classification models and applying them to a large collection of German and English historical prose fiction, including both canonical works and non-fiction. Moving from theorization and conceptualization to dataset creation, modeling, analysis, and interpretation, I will outline the steps involved in conducting a computational study of this kind. We will examine results that show how the concepts of “setting” and “lived space” have been used in fiction over time and discuss their implications for “experientiality” and embodiment more broadly, including cross-linguistic perspectives between German and English. The talk also introduces a methodological model for iterative, interpretive “computational reading” that bridges qualitative and quantitative approaches. Dear European Digital Humanists, the workshop "Historical Labour Markets in Text: Computational and Historical Perspectives on Labour Market Evolution" brings together social and economic historians, labour economists, and digital humanities scholars who use textual sources (for instance job advertisements, ego-documents, legal documentation) to study historical economies of the labour markets. In the context of our Job ads project (https://historical-job-ads.uni-graz.at/) — whether in newspapers, trade journals, or early employment agencies — we used this unique window into employer demand and labor supply: occupations, skills, gender expectations, and social norms. With digitization and advances in natural language processing (NLP), new possibilities emerge for systematic, large-scale analyses across time and place. The goal of the workshop is to exchange experiences on how to prepare, model, and interpret textual sources like job advertisement data for economic, historical and digital research. We will discuss social and economic history of labour, methodological challenges (OCR, classification, text annotation, comparability across periods), share ongoing projects, and explore how computational tools can support broader historical questions about skill demand, gender segmentation, and structural change. Topics include: - Which historical sources can inform us about changing skill requirements, technological change, and gendered labour markets. - What can we learn from historical job ads about changing labour markets? - Which methods are available for extracting structured social and economic information from historical text? - How can we set up comparative and longitudinal studies of labour markets across countries and centuries drawing on data beyond already historically aggregations? - How can we enrich textual sources by linking them to economic taxonomies like HISCO, ISCO, or occupational prestige scales? - What has to be done to aggregate and integrate data created on the historical labour market? In 2026, DMSI will take place in both the US and the UK, in conjunction with two of the most important gatherings for medievalists! The DMSI offers a full-day programme featuring workshops on digital scholarly methods specifically tailored for medievalists.
