This has taken a variety of forms, whether on Twitter, or through blogs, physical or—last year—virtual meetings, and more. We invite applications from digital humanities centers interested in forming an international team to organize Day of DH during the Spring of 2021. Last year, since everyone was working virtually because of COVID-19, meetups were arranged by time-zones; we had promotional Zoom backdrops and an Animal Crossing meetup, lectures, and a well-trafficked hashtag (#DayofDH2020). But we hope that you will bring your own ideas for the best ways to bring together the global community of digital humanists to celebrate the incredible range of ways and places that our work gets done. Day of DH offers the opportunity for centers and students to gain international visibility and expand their professional networks. We are particularly hoping to hear from centers who include opportunities for graduate student involvement in their plans. Teams will work with members of the CenterNet Executive Council to coordinate a day of programming. CenterNet can cover limited expenses. This lecture takes place within the context of the lecture series: DIGITAL HUMANITIES – THEORIE UND METHODIK “DATA LITERACY AND DIGITAL HUMANITIES” The digital universe is growing very fast and the amount of information contained in data is exploding. The mining of these data has ethical, social, and political consequences. In order to think through these consequences a new kind of literacy is needed, which could also be called ‘data literacy’ if we define it according to Chantel Ridsdale as “the ability to collect, manage, evaluate, and apply data in a critical manner”. BUT HOW SHOULD WE TEACH DATA LITERACY IN THE HUMANITIES? The Digital Humanities are characterised by a cross-disciplinary and collaborative nature, by project orientation, hands-on practices and the use of cultural heritage data, and by the aim to integrate and create domain-specific knowledge with computational methods and tools while reflecting their application and use critically. As such Digital Humanities would seem to offer everything that students need to become not only literate in their specific Humanities field, but to acquire at the same time data literacy and skills like problem solving, computational and critical thinking. As the data which play a role in Digital Humanities are themselves multiform and comprise among other types visual, audio, geospatial, temporal, and statistical data, we can even say that by studying Digital Humanities students become meta- or transliterate and thus able to employ their knowledge, competencies and skills in very diverse social and professional domains. In order to support the claim that doing Digital Humanities involves becoming (meta- / trans-) data literate and to illustrate the acquisition of data literacy in diverse Humanities-specific courses offered at different levels of university education, we have brought together an international group of specialists. UK-Ireland Digital Humanities Research Network Workshop: 'Capacity enhancement in DH: training and beyond' 15 December 2020 The UK-Ireland Digital Humanities Association<https://gtr.ukri.org/projects?ref=AH%2FV002163%2F1> (PIs: Prof. Jane Winters and Dr. Michelle Doran) is a network funded by the AHRC and IRC that brings together different stakeholders in Digital Humanities and related fields to consider and interrogate critically the concepts of sustainability, inclusivity, training, advocacy and career progression, among other key questions. Institutions and individuals engaged with the network will work to propose ways in which the UK and Ireland can build a collaborative vision for the field, and create new and sustainable long-term partnerships in alignment with the international community. The objectives of the workshop, organised for the network by King's Digital Lab, are the following: * Contribute to developing pathways to sustained, effective and widespread capacity-building for DH researchers in the UK and Ireland across disciplines, institutions and career stages. * Contribute to define specific pathways for training highly interdisciplinary humanists who are able to work across multiple sectors, including and beyond academia. * Contribute to the broad inclusion of communities beyond individuals based in research-performing organisations, including cultural heritage institutions, the arts and creative industries, and interested citizen scientists. * Provide opportunities for individual researchers to develop their skills and networks, and to contribute to international debates about the future of the field. * Consider and interrogate critically the concepts of sustainability, inclusivity, training, advocacy and career progression. At the University of Salzburg there are plans not to fill the chair for Latin Philology again in 2022. This not only endangers Latin as a subject, but also the Corpus Scriptorum Ecclesiasticorum Latinorum at Salzburg.
