Extension for ADHO Pedagogy and Training SIG poster slam at DH2026 submissions

Dear colleagues, we are extending the deadline for submissions to the poster slam at DH 2026 for the DH Pedagogy and Training SIG. Please submit proposals by Monday, February 9. Accepted participants will be notified no later than 28 February. Overview The DH Pedagogy and Training SIG (https://adho.org/dh-pedagogy-and-training/) will hold a Pedagogy Poster Slam at the 2026 DH Conference in Daejeon, South Korea. The Pedagogy Poster Slam will take place during the SIG’s reserved slot during one of the conference’s two workshop days, either Monday, 27 July 2026, or Tuesday, 28 July 2026. Posters will either focus on a) a specific assignment for a DH or DH-inflected course or b) an entire course. During the workshop, participants will first participate in the Slam, where they will have a maximum of 120 seconds to discuss one aspect of their assignment or course. Once the participants have all spoken, the rest of the workshop will be devoted to a conventional poster session, where attendees can engage with the presenters at their posters. Presenters will be encouraged to bring print copies of their assignment/syllabus to distribute to attendees. All conference attendees will be welcome to attend the workshop and slam. (Plus, there will be food!) Call for Proposals The SIG Conveners invite all members of the DH community to submit proposals for the Pedagogy Poster Slam. Proposals will include · 150 words or fewer about the context of the assignment, course, or workshop · 200 words or fewer about the assignment, course, or workshop · An upload of either the assignment or the course syllabus Proposals should be submitted via the following Google Form: https://forms.gle/zdkNEHXPDppXQz3E6. ERC P|RIMA: open position for a data engineer

Dear colleagues, We are pleased to announce the recruitment of a Research Data Mining and Data Engineering Developer (M/F)within the l'ERC PRIMA (Grant Agreement n°101142242), Manuscripts in the Age of Print (1575-1800) <https://prima.hypotheses.org/>. Project overview: The assumption that print production dominated the circulation of literature, science, and music, among other areas, in Early Modern Europe (1575-1800) needs to be challenged. In fact, manuscript production and publication, particularly in Italy, were exceptionally rich but have been neglected in research. The ERC-funded PRIMA project aims to rewrite our understanding of manuscript production and publication in Early Modern Europe. It explores the relationship between text and physical form, highlighting overlooked manuscript culture, and challenging assumptions about the superiority of print over manuscripts. The project focuses on Italy and employs innovative methods to uncover unknown works. Recruitment timeline: Application deadline: 9 February 2026 Interviews: 16 February 2026 Starting date: 1 April 2026 Profile details: The developer (Ingénieur·e d’études) will have three main responsibilities related to the project’s technical infrastructure which includes a PostgreSQL database, a Django application, a REST API, and an editorial platform based on TEI Publisher. 1. Data integration and management The candidate will be responsible for analysing, transforming, and cleaning data (produced by project members and partners) in order to integrate them into the project database in a documented and reproducible manner, in compliance with the database plans and constraints. Special attention will be given to data quality and the identification and removal of duplicates. The candidate will also contribute to the maintenance of the Data Management Plan and to the deposit of datasets on appropriate platforms (Zenodo, Nakala, etc.). 2. Data extraction Using the project database and API, the candidate will extract data in standardised formats to enable their deposit in data repositories as well as their integration into national and international partner repositories, in accordance with the schemas and constraints of these repositories (CIDOC-CRM ; TEI ; EAD etc.). 3. Data mining Based on the project database and API, the candidate will carry out quantitative and qualitative statistical analyses to test the project’s research hypotheses. They will also propose visualisations of the results, ensuring full documentation of the methods used and the reproducibility of analyses and outcomes. CALL FOR PAPERS 3rd Workshop on Computational Methods in the Humanities (COMHUM 2026) ======================================================================== September 9–10, 2026 · University of Lausanne, Switzerland Deadline for submission of abstracts: February 20, 2026 Special track: computation and video games ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Academia and the humanities have never been more digital, which pushes digital humanities to frontiers beyond computational approaches to humanities or the application of humanities research methods to the digital. In this context, the COMHUM workshop series positions itself as an international forum primarily devoted to the following research questions: (1) which formal or computational approaches can help address the particular challenges posed by the growing presence of the digital in humanities, e.g., digital artifacts, software, LLMs, and computer-generated data? In these cases and beyond, (2) which methods are most appropriate to tackle the challenges posed by humanities research and how can they be applied to concrete research questions? The first day will be devoted to the specific topic of computation and video games. This topic explores computational methods for analyzing video games as well as humanities approaches to computation in video games. It has a number of ramifications in a variety of disciplines, including software studies, critical code studies, literary analysis, digital humanities, and game studies. Topics in the special track include, but are not limited to: - Methods for data extraction in video games (e.g. telemetry, assets, models, code) - Computational methods for video game analysis (including spatial, representational and narrative aspects) - Analyses of intersection of computational approaches and the study of video games - Humanities approaches to computation of video games (including software) In the spirit of the previous editions of the COMHUM workshop, the second day will be open to submissions on any topic pertaining to theoretical or applied research on computational methods for humanities research broadly conceived. Topics in the open track include, but are not limited to: - Theoretical issues of formal modeling in the humanities - Knowledge representation in the humanities - Data structures addressing specific problems in the humanities (including text and markup) - Computational methods in the humanities (e.g., for language and literary studies, historical studies, or multimodal data) - Applications of computer vision, image analysis and spatial analysis in the humanities The program will consist of invited and contributed talks. “Accessible Textual Heritage” Course – second Call for Applications

Dear all, Applications for the *Professional Development and Specialization Course “Accessible Textual Heritage”* are open until *February 8th*. The course will take place at the University of Verona and online (blended mode) from March 23, 2026, to April 30, 2026. The course consists of 25 hours of training in the first week (March 23-27, 2026), with theoretical explanations and practical workshops, and the completion of a final project, with presentation of the results to a team of experts in the field (April 30, 2026). Dear all, Please find below a Call for Papers for the AI for Peace workshop at ICLR in Sao Paolo, Brasil. *Dates* Jan. 30, 2026 Workshop contributions submission deadline Mar. 1, 2026 Decision notification and OpenReview publication Apr. 26 or 27, 2026 Workshop date AI has many historical roots in research for military applications and much of the scientific community remains deeply connected to the surveillance and defense industries. Yet, even today, the military uses of AI are often obscured and many researchers and developers remain unaware of how their work might be deployed in conflicts, and the extent to which they might contribute to intentional harm, including potentially violations of international law. Although AI in conflict and surveillance is a key topic of public and policy debate, there have been no formal spaces for AI researchers themselves within the main machine learning conferences to articulate and discuss their positions towards the weaponization of their research. The AI for Peace workshop @ ICLR 2026 will be a forum to consider both the harms associated with research dissemination and design decisions, and the opportunities for affirmatively building our research and development agenda from the starting position of non-violent harm prevention, research ethics, and respect for international law, including international humanitarian and human rights law. We aim to address the critically under-discussed issue of AI’s dual-use nature, focusing on how machine learning technologies are being adapted for military purposes, potentially without the researchers’ knowledge or consent. While attending to the heightened risks associated with particular areas and systems of research, we will also be collectively thinking through what it looks like to engage productively in research and development activities that considers ethics and international law at its core. Our objectives are to: • Increase transparency about the pipelines through which AI research enters into military and surveillance applications. • Develop collective strategies to address ethical and legal risks as a community of researchers. • Highlight and support research efforts that contribute to peace-building applications, including those helping to surface or elucidate harmful applications of AI. A key avenue of exploration will be to invite parallels between current conversations in AI and similar debates (with longer histories) in other scientific fields, such as genetic biology and nuclear physics; where researchers have grappled with similar ethical challenges and proposed concrete professional responses. Dr. Katrin Rohrbacher (Nürnberg/Erlangen): Measuring Narrative Space: A Computational Study of German and English Prose Fiction In this talk, I will present ongoing work on measuring the notion of narrative space using machine learning methods, specifically by fine-tuning BERT-based classification models and applying them to a large collection of German and English historical prose fiction, including both canonical works and non-fiction. Moving from theorization and conceptualization to dataset creation, modeling, analysis, and interpretation, I will outline the steps involved in conducting a computational study of this kind. We will examine results that show how the concepts of “setting” and “lived space” have been used in fiction over time and discuss their implications for “experientiality” and embodiment more broadly, including cross-linguistic perspectives between German and English. The talk also introduces a methodological model for iterative, interpretive “computational reading” that bridges qualitative and quantitative approaches.
