Dear Colleagues, You are cordially invited to the 4th annual of the conference Humanities and Social Sciences from the Perspective of Digital Humanities, which will take place on 5th-6th November 2026 at the Department of Czech Studies, Faculty of Arts, Palacký University Olomouc (Křížkovského 512/10, 779 00 Olomouc 9, Czech Republic<https://mapy.com/cs/?source=addr&id=9032913>). As in the previous years, we are preparing an interdisciplinary conference dedicated to the field of digital humanities, not only in literary studies and linguistics but across all humanities or social science disciplines. The 2026 edition will thus build on our experience with facilitating a broad discussion without a single overarching theme. The discussion shall highlight various possibilities for the application of digital technologies in humanities and social sciences research and practice. We believe that maximum openness and friendliness, along with the mutual exchange of knowledge across different fields, form the fundamental contribution and usefulness of our meeting. Therefore, as always, we welcome proposals on any topic in the field of digital humanities (DH). February 2026) Logo Commission Internationale de la Diplomatique Contact: didip(a)uni-graz.at https://didip.hypotheses.org/conference-2026 Presentation English In celebration of the 200th birthday of Theodor Sickel (1826-1908), the conference will focus on developments in the methodology of diplomatics, discussing which methods fit to what kind of diplomatic material and research question, collecting exceptional results of the application of existing methods, confronting old and new methods, reflecting on how to evaluate digital methods and their impact on the current diplomatics methodologies, etc. By discussing applications and effects of individual methods applied in diplomatics research, we hope to refine and renew the general methodological framework of diplomatics. Diplomatics is an old field of research. Its main methodology is usually centered around the concept of discrimen veri ac falsi and was designed in the bella diplomatica of the 17th century by Dom Jean Mabillon. He introduced comparison of contemporary habits of authentication, writing, or linguistic style as the main method of diplomatics. Palaeography and textual analysis (“diplomatic discourse”) are at the core of diplomatics methodology. This includes, for instance, the creation of typologies describing the expectations for individual documents. However, the long history of diplomatics has seen changes, additions and shifts in its methodology: Sickel’s concept of “Kanzleimäßigkeit” narrowed the method from a generic comparison to the detailed analysis of chancery practices and the individuals creating the charters, which also has a strong tradition in Spanish diplomatics. Critical scholarly editing is an independent strand of diplomatics, which combines the methodologies for discrimen veri ac falsi with methods of textual criticism: reflecting on the tradition of the texts, establishment of a reliable text, and provision of abstracts of the content. The crisis of diplomatics in the 1960’s (Bartoloni, Bautier, Fichtenau, Petrucci) fostered the search for the application of diplomatics methods to other material than charters and to other temporal contexts than the middle ages. Comparative methods have been refined in Pierre Chaplais’ work on different English chanceries. Alessandro Pratesi brought forward social and intellectual context as an analytical framework for diplomatics, while still focussing on the representational and probative function of the charters and the formal rigor in individual analysis. From the 1990s onwards, scholars such as Peter Rück, Olivier Guyotjeannin, and Laurent Morelle have pushed forward the conceptualization of diplomatics as cultural history and thus added the analysis of cultural practices around the act of documentation and the use of charters to the methods of diplomatics. While Attilio Bartoli Langeli promoted the historical rooting of the discipline, Giovanna Nicolaj has pushed the legal framework of diplomatics to the foreground. The most recent contributions to diplomatics methodology are sparked by the digitisation of archival holdings and scholarly engagement with them. Digital diplomatics in this sense is searching for appropriate representations of parchments, seals, texts and the actions represented by them, and the analytical tools that open new perspectives. Luciana Duranti has used the “digital diplomatics” label to transfer analytical criteria of diplomatics like authenticity to archival science to understand digital documentary practices better. This conference will study the development and the state of the art of diplomatic methodology in all its facets. La diplomatique est un domaine de recherche ancien. Sa méthodologie principale est généralement centrée sur le concept du discrimen veri ac falsi et a été conçue dans les bella diplomatica du XVIIe siècle par Dom Jean Mabillon. Il a introduit la comparaison des habitudes contemporaines d’authentification, d’écriture ou de style linguistique comme méthode principale de la diplomatique. La paléographie et l’analyse textuelle (« discours diplomatique ») sont au cœur de la méthodologie diplomatique. Cela inclut, par exemple, la création de typologies décrivant les attentes pour chaque document. Cependant, la longue histoire de la diplomatique a connu des changements, des ajouts et des évolutions dans sa méthodologie : le concept de « Kanzleimäßigkeit » de Sickel a restreint la méthode d’une comparaison générique à l’analyse détaillée des pratiques de la chancellerie et des individus créant les chartes, méthode qui a également une forte tradition dans la diplomatique espagnole. Les méthodes comparatives ont été affinées dans les travaux de Pierre Chaplais sur différentes chancelleries anglaises. Alessandro Pratesi a mis en avant le contexte social et intellectuel comme cadre analytique pour la diplomatique, tout en continuant à se concentrer sur la fonction représentative et probante des chartes et la rigueur formelle dans l’analyse individuelle. In this context, the COMHUM workshop series positions itself as an international forum primarily devoted to the following research questions: (1) which formal or computational approaches can help address the particular challenges posed by the growing presence of the digital in humanities, e.g., digital artifacts, software, LLMs, and computer-generated data? In these cases and beyond, (2) which methods are most appropriate to tackle the challenges posed by humanities research and how can they be applied to concrete research questions? The first day will be devoted to the specific topic of computation and video games. This topic explores computational methods for analyzing video games as well as humanities approaches to computation in video games. It has a number of ramifications in a variety of disciplines, including software studies, critical code studies, literary analysis, digital humanities, and game studies. Topics in the special track include, but are not limited to: - Methods for data extraction in video games (e.g. telemetry, assets, models, code) - Computational methods for video game analysis (including spatial, representational and narrative aspects) - Analyses of intersection of computational approaches and the study of video games - Humanities approaches to computation of video games (including software) In the spirit of the previous editions of the COMHUM workshop, the second day will be open to submissions on any topic pertaining to theoretical or applied research on computational methods for humanities research broadly conceived. Dear colleagues, Conducting independent replication and reproduction studies of past research findings has gained increasing importance in recent years, particularly in light of the interdisciplinary replication crisis affecting many research fields. For this reason, we have recently founded a new interdisciplinary journal, “Replication Research (R2)”, which is now open for submissions. Accepted formats include all types of replications, reproductions, and conceptual contributions on the topic of replication and reproduction research. Thanks to a multidisciplinary team of replication experts, we accept submissions from multiple disciplines: Digital Humanities, Experimental Philosophy, Geoscience, Linguistics, Management Sciences, Marketing, Medicine, Mental Health, Metascience, Neuroimaging, Neuroscience, Political Science, Psychology, Qualitative & Quantitative Research Methods. We are aware that publishing replications and reproductions in this area can be challenging, which is why we have created a transparent, free, and high-quality journal. Existing benchmarks primarily deal with semantic table interpretation or reasoning over tables for question answering, leaving a gap in evaluating models that integrate tabular and textual information, perform joint information extraction across modalities, or can automatically detect inconsistencies between modalities. This workshop aims to provide a forum for exchanging ideas between the NLP community working on open information extraction and the vibrant Semantic Web community working on the core challenge of matching tabular data to Knowledge Graphs, on populating knowledge graphs using texts and on reasoning across text, tabular data and knowledge graphs. The workshop also targets researchers focusing on the intersection of learning over structured data and information retrieval, for example, in retrieval augmented generation (RAG) and question answering (QA) systems. Hence, the goal of the workshop is to connect researchers and trigger collaboration opportunities by bringing together views from the Semantic Web, NLP, database, and IR disciplines. All accepted papers will be presented as posters or as oral talks. **TRIPLET Challenge:** In recent years, the research community has shown increasing interest in the joint understanding of text and tabular data, often, for performing tasks such as question answering or fact checking where evidences can be found in texts and tables. Hence, various benchmarks have been developed for jointly querying tabular data and textual documents in domains such as finance, scientific publications, and open domain. While benchmarks for triple extraction from text for Knowledge Graph construction and semantic annotation of tabular data exist in the community, there remains a gap in benchmarks and tasks that specifically address the joint extraction of triples from text and tables by leveraging complementary clues across these different modalities. The TRIPLET 2026 challenge is proposing three sub-tasks and benchmarks for understanding the complementarity between tables, texts, and knowledge graphs, and in particular to propose a joint knowledge extraction and reconciliation process. #Sub-Task 1: Assessing the Relatedness Between Tables and Textual Passages The goal of this task is to assess the relatedness between tables and textual passages (within documents and across documents). For this purpose, we have constructed LATTE (Linking Across Table and Text for Relatedness Evaluation), a human annotated dataset comprising table–text pairs with relatedness labels. LATTE consists of 7,674 unique tables and 41,880 unique textual paragraphs originating from 3,826 distinct Wikipedia pages. Each text paragraph is drawn from the same or contextually linked pages as the corresponding table, rather than being artificially generated. LATTE provides a challenging benchmark for cross-modal reasoning by requiring classification of related and unrelated table–text pairs. Unlike prior resources centered on table-to-text generation or text retrieval, LATTE emphasizes fine-grained semantic relatedness between structured and unstructured data. The Figure below provides an example, using a web-annotation tool we developed, of how we identify the relatedness between the sentence containing the entity AirPort Extreme 802.11n (highlighted in Orange) and the data table providing information about output power and frequency for this entity. Participants are provided with tables and textual passages that would need to be ranked. The evaluation will use metrics such as P@k, R@k and F1@k. Go to https://www.codabench.org/competitions/12776/ and enroll to participate in this Task. #Sub-Task 2: Joint Relation Extraction Between Texts and Tables The goal of this task is to automatically extract knowledge jointly from tables and related texts. For this purpose, we created ReTaT, a dataset that can be used to train and evaluate systems for extracting such relations. This dataset is composed of (table, surrounding text) pairs extracted from Wikipedia pages and has been manually annotated with relation triples. ReTaT is organized in three subsets with distinct characteristics: domain (business, telecommunication and female celebrities), size (from 50 to 255 pairs), language (English vs French), type of relations (data vs object properties), close vs open list of relation, size of the surrounding text (paragraph vs full page). We then assessed its quality and suitability for the joint table-text relation extraction task using Large Language Models (LLMs). Given a Wikipedia page containing texts and tables and a list of predicates defined in Wikidata, a participant system should extract triples composed of mentions located partly in the text and partly in the table and disambiguated with entities and predicates identified in the Wikidata reference knowledge graph. For example, in the Figure below, an annotation triple <Q13567390, P2109, 24.57> is associated with mentions highlighted in orange (subject), blue (predicate) and green (object) to annotate the document available at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AirPort_Extreme. Similar to the Text2KGBench evaluation (https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-031-47243-5_14) and because the set of triples are not exhaustive for a given sentence, to avoid false negatives, we follow a locally closed approach by only considering the relations that are part of the ground truth. The evaluation then uses metrics such as P, R and F1. Go to https://www.codabench.org/competitions/12936/ and enroll to participate in this Task. # Sub-Task 3: Detecting Inconsistencies Between Texts, Tables and Knowledge Graphs The goal of this task is to check the consistency of knowledge extracted from tables and texts with existing triples in the Wikidata knowledge graph. Different kind of inconsistencies will be considered in this task. Participants to this task will be able to report on their findings in their system paper. See the Figure at https://ecladatta.github.io/images/triplet_annotation_tool.png # Data & Evaluation: For the first 2 sub-tasks, we have released a training dataset with ground-truth annotations, enabling participant teams to develop machine learning-based systems, and in particular for training purposes and for hyperparameter optimizations and internal validations. A separate blind test dataset will remain private and be used for ranking the submissions. Participants should register on Codabench and then enroll for each sub-task separately (Task 1: https://www.codabench.org/competitions/12776/ and Task 2: https://www.codabench.org/competitions/12936/) Each team are allowed a limited number of daily submissions, and the highest achieved accuracy will be reported as the team's final result.
