Liebe Listenmitglieder, über eine Mailingliste von US-Ostasienstudien-Bibliothekar*innen bin ich auf unten genanntes Webinar aufmerksam geworden und leite Ihnen/Euch den Hinweis auf diesem Wege weiter. Thema des Webinars sind Guidelines für Normdaten in nichtlateinischen Schriften im US-Bibliothekssystem der Library of Congress. Man kann sich anmelden und falls die Uhrzeit des Webinars aufgrund der Zeitverschiebung ungünstig ist, erhält man im Nachhinein einen Link zur Aufzeichnung. Ich dachte, da Normdaten samt LOD ein wichtiges Thema in den DH geworden sind, ist es evtl. auch aus internationaler Perspektive interessant zu erfahren, wie das Thema Normdaten in nichtlateinischen Schriften dort diskutiert wird und welchen Einfluss das dann u.U. auf DH-Forschung haben könnte, die Library of Congress Normdaten verwendet/verwenden möchte? Our pre-conference event will take place on Monday August 5, 2024 in the morning Eastern Time. Please note that presenting at DH2024 is NOT a requirement for participation in the SIG event. > > > Supported by ADHO, our SIG aims to connect scholars using digital humanities tools and methods on and in languages other than English. While the human condition is one of multilingualism, the Anglophone-centricity of digital humanities continues to be an impediment to DH scholars who work on, or teach with, materials in other languages---not to speak of the vast majority of scholars whose first language isn?t English or who do not work in English at all. The conference will be in-person only and will take place in London, at King’s College London Strand Campus (WC2R 2LS), where the Department of Digital Humanities is based. The event aims to foster discussions and collaborations across various disciplines, specifically including Natural Language Processing (NLP), Social Sciences, and Social Media and Digital Methods in broader research in Digital Humanities. In an era defined by unprecedented connectivity and vast digital datasets, the intersection of NLP, Social Sciences, and Social Media alongside Digital Methods sparks a profound dialogue, reshaping our understanding of human behavior and societal dynamics within vast digital ecosystems. NLP emerges as a transformative force, equipping computers with the ability to comprehend, interpret, and generate human language, bridging the gap between digital data and human insights. Prospettive Critiche e Intersezioni nelle Digital Humanities. Critical Perspectives and Intersections in the Digital Humanities. The interdisciplinary symposium aims to further explore the concepts of “lack of cultural criticism” (Fiormonte 2012) and “situated knowledge” (Haraway 1988), which have been conjugated in their multiple facets in the field of DH. In particular, it will focus on the active and embodied role of the researcher, on the opportunities created by the application of Information Technology to the Humanities, and on the challenges presented by the use of technological tools, that are usually considered neutral, but which deeply influence the epistemologies and practices of the Humanities themselves. We encourage perspectives drawn from qualitative and quantitative historical and philological analysis, cultural criticism, and sociological, literary, artistic and linguistic disciplines, supported by digital and computational approaches. Attention will be paid to the linguistic, geographical and cultural hegemonies of DH, to the major issues of communication and the so-called “informatics of domination”, to the bias introduced by the extended use of Large Language Models, and to the complexity of interactions between Artificial Intelligence and artistic and cultural heritages and practices. This last topic will also be considered from the didactic perspective of DH and/or through its tools.
