ODP: Re: DH 2026 PC Meeting
Dear All, Before we meet, I'd like to say that I'm fine with Youngmin's suggestions. His two candidates establish a very nice balance between a keynote who's a well-known member of the DH community, and an eminent figure outside our community. Also: it would be so cool to have a real writer (and a Nobel Prize winner at that!) as the other keynote. For DH2016, we actually asked John le Carre first (he owed me: I translated 11 of his books into Polish); he was tempted, but eventually declined. See you Monday, Jan ________________________________ Od: Youngmin Kim <[email protected]> Wysłane: piątek, 24 października 2025 15:02 Do: Wonhee Cho <[email protected]> DW: [email protected] <[email protected]> Temat: [PC2026] Re: DH 2026 PC Meeting UWAGA: Wiadomość pochodzi od zewnętrznego nadawcy. Dear Wonhee, Misun, and all, I am not certain as to whether I will be able to attend the scheduled Zoom meeting, as I will be taking an international flight to return to Korea on Monday, October 27. Despite my efforts to establish a connection via cell phone, I may be unable to contribute to the conversation as a result of my travel restrictions. Consequently, I would like to provide a concise summary of my suggestions for keynote presenters via email in advance, if it is permissible. I highly recommend Diane Jakacki and Ms. Han Kang as keynote speakers for DH2026 in Daejeon. Diane is an ideal speaker for the conference theme of "Engagement" due to her pedagogical innovations, commitment to ethical and inclusive scholarship, and leadership in global digital humanities. Her work provides a comprehensive and deliberate perspective on the future of DH by integrating critical theory, digital infrastructure, and collaborative pedagogy. The literary voice of Ms. Han Kang, the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature recipient, is profound and resonates with the ethical and emotive dimensions of digital culture. Her presence would not only contribute intellectual and symbolic depth to the conference, but it would also considerably improve our capacity to attract sponsors and generate a broader public interest. We may contemplate inviting her in a special capacity, distinct from the three designated keynote speakers, in light of her prominence. Of course, her willingness to accept such an invitation is still uncertain, and I offer this recommendation with the utmost care. I am not a voting member of the Program Committee in my capacity as Conference Liaison. I am an ex-officio member of the organization, which entitles me to attend meetings. I understand I am not involved in the formal decision-making process. I present these recommendations as a thoughtful and respectful proposal with the expectation that they will be a valuable addition to the PC's deliberations. I am willing to compose the invitation email in both cases.
