I have always found the engagement of scholarly organizations in current political matters to be a complicated and tricky thing. To my mind many of the statements issued by such organizations in the recent past have smacked of a political and moral self-righteousness or wokeness-inspired flagellantism that comes just a bit too cheaply, and noticeably in US-academia's rhetorical currency. Against that backdrop your carefully worded and sincere approach in reaction to the current humanitarian and political catastrophe in Europe stands out as a sincere, genuine and mature response.
