HERMES Data Competence Center is conducting its first Data Challenge!

We challenge multidisciplinary teams of humanities scholars and data scientists to critically analyze newspaper data from the German Newspaper Portal and solve the problems that arise when working with real-life, text-based data.

The goal of this Data Challenge is to develop best practices for the critical handling of tabular and text-based data sets to answer a research question in the humanities and to find innovative solutions that support GLAM institutions in digitizing and publishing their archival materials.

Who can participate? Humanities scholars who work on historical mass media, including newspapers, data scientists with an interest and expertise in NLP, and anyone interested in archival text files and NLP are invited to take part in this challenge.
