Dear all, As a valued DHASA member and previous attendee of DH conferences and workshops, we want to thank you for your continued support and want to bring the following opportunities to your attention. Call for Nominations: Two new co-opted Executive Committee members: DHASA aims to create awareness on Digital Humanities (DH), promote DH scholarship in Southern Africa, create a Southern African DH community of practice, and promote information sharing and skills development on DH-related topics. One of the core roles of DHASA is to organise a regular conference and smaller workshops in collaboration with other academic institutions. As part of the DHASA executive committee, you will have an opportunity to serve and give back to the Southern African DH community. Through your involvement, you will be able to grow your own networks and facilitate the development of emerging scholars and students. As part of DHASA, we want to celebrate and foster diversity in all its complexities. DHASA Executive Committee The DHASA Constitution provides for an Executive Committee (EC) which comprises a President, a Vice-President, a Secretary, a Treasurer, and an additional member. The EC has the right to co-opt further members for their specialised knowledge or to replace members no longer able to serve. All members of the EC must be members of the Association. The current DHASA Executive Committee is organised into six committees which manage the Association's range of activities and which mirror the Alliance of Digital Humanities Associations‚ (ADHO) organisation structure: * Awards Committee * Communications Committee * Conference Organising Committee * Membership Committee * Multilingualism Committee * Publications Committee The formal roles are currently filled as follows: * President (Prof Menno van Zaanen) * Vice-President (Dr Karen Calteaux) * Treasurer (Mr Juan Steyn) * Secretary (Dr Oghenere Salubi) At present, all formal roles on the EC are available for the election of new role bearers. Call for Nominations In order to ensure continuity in the activities of the Association, the EC will elect the formal role bearers from among its current members. As a result, we are calling for nominations of interested persons to serve on the EC to contribute to any of the above committees. Being a member of the EC opens up the opportunity to be elected into one of the formal roles in future. Who is eligible for nomination as a co-opted member of the EC? Any official member of DHASA who is willing to volunteer to contribute towards the responsibilities of the Executive Committee as described in DHASA's Constitution. As an EC member you confirm that you subscribe to the DHASA Constitution and the Aims of the Organisation and that you will act in line with DHASA's Code of conduct. Getting involved You are welcome to self-nominate by sending an email to [email protected]. The nomination process will close on 31 October 2025. As part of your nomination kindly: * indicate which committee(s) you are willing to become involved in; and * provide a short bio on your interest in Digital Humanities and how you would want to contribute to building DH in the region (<200 words). You are welcome to include hyperlinks in your bio which will be published on http://digitalhumanities.org.za as part of the election process. Election of additional members and appointment to formal Executive Committee roles The Executive Committee shall consider all nominations received at a meeting convened for this purpose in November 2025. Nominees will be informed of their election to the Executive Committee and will be invited to a follow-up meeting during which Committee members will be allocated to formal roles and briefed on the current programme of work.
