Dear colleagues

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the next instalment of the Centre for Digital Humanities Webinar Series.

As part of our initiative to foster a thoughtful, inclusive, and critically engaged environment for dialogue, this series serves as a platform for emerging leaders to share experiences, experiment with new ideas, and discuss the future of Digital Humanities (DH). We aim to cultivate a dynamic community of practice that learns collectively through conversation and reflective practice.

Event Details

In this webinar, Mr. Govender explores how George Orwell’s concept of Newspeak reappears in today’s digital landscape. He examines the rise of “Trumpian doublethink,” investigating how digital mass media shapes meaning, weakens objective truth, and reinforces existing power structures.

This session offers a critical look at how the manipulation of language and information influences citizen thought and undermines democratic decision-making, providing a relevant context for the uncertainties and ethical challenges inherent in modern DH practices.

We encourage you to join us for what promises to be a stimulating discussion on the intersection of literature, politics, and digital media.

RSVP: Please confirm your attendance by 09 March 2026. See attached poster.

We look forward to welcoming you.

Kind regards,

CDH Team
