I hope this message finds you well. I'm writing to gauge interest from anyone who is interested in participating in a panel on the topic of AI, power, and colonialism (in a broad sense) at this year's conference. This panel will be co-organized with the Canadian Association of Postcolonial Studies and will focus on the ways in which LLMs and AI transform notions of power, agency, coloniality, citizenship, etc. We are open to a range of ideas that think not merely about the technical dimensions of AI but also about how the lessons of subaltern studies, postcolonial criticism, and other analyses of power can help us understand this technology. I welcome you to think broadly and creatively about how your work might contribute to this discussion.
As is stands, we are looking for 3 - 4 speakers who may be able to give a brief presentation on the topic and then participate in a roundtable discussion with members of both CSDH/SCHN and CAPS. This will be an exciting and compelling talk so please get in touch with me if you are at all interested. I'm happy to chat and answer questions about it.
All best,
Paul Barrett
