It has made it extremely difficult for journalists, activists, and at this current moment in time — educators. In our current political climate, we are reminded daily of the dangers of not being silent, prioritizing the needs of those in crisis, protecting our students, colleagues, and loved ones against digital harm, and standing up for what is right. Digital humanities has the potential to do all of these things, but are we ready to take the lead? Audre Lorde reminds us all that our silence will NOT protect us. So, how will we use what we know to enact revolutionary change? How will we resist the violence in digital spaces that materializes and manifests in our offline lives? This is a clarion call to all digital humanities scholars, students, librarians, and professors to reset, resist, and revolutionize the field in order to revolutionize the world. Panel on AI, power, colonially

Dear CSDH / SCHN members, I hope this message finds you well. I'm writing to gauge interest from anyone who is interested in participating in a panel on the topic of AI, power, and colonialism (in a broad sense) at this year's conference. This panel will be co-organized with the Canadian Association of Postcolonial Studies and will focus on the ways in which LLMs and AI transform notions of power, agency, coloniality, citizenship, etc. We are open to a range of ideas that think not merely about the technical dimensions of AI but also about how the lessons of subaltern studies, postcolonial criticism, and other analyses of power can help us understand this technology. I welcome you to think broadly and creatively about how your work might contribute to this discussion. As is stands, we are looking for 3 - 4 speakers who may be able to give a brief presentation on the topic and then participate in a roundtable discussion with members of both CSDH/SCHN and CAPS. Passing of Robert Jay Glickman

Forwarding on behalf of Geoffrey Rockwell: t with sorrow that I write that Robert Jay Glickman recently passed away. He was a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Toronto. His area was Hispanic language, literature, and culture, but he was also an early innovator in humanities computing. He published the manual for a text analysis program PRORA he developed with G. J. Staalman in 1966. This was reviewed in the first issue of Computers in the Humanities. (Lieberman, D. (1966). "Review of Manual for the Printing of Literary Texts by Computer by Robert Jay Glickman and Gerrit Joseph Staalman." Computers and the Humanities 1(1): 12.) Dear all, We are pleased to announce that the registration is now open for DHSI-East 2025, which will take place at St Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, from Monday 5 May-Thursday 8 May, with an aligned event on 9-10 May. Faculty, staff, students, and all interested welcome. We have two concurrent workshops this year: "Digital Sustainability and Preservation in Digital Archives Projects,” led by Dr. Constance Crompton (Canada Research Chair in Digital Humanities, University of Ottawa) and Meghan Landry (ACENET); and "Introduction to Databases for Humanist Data,” led by Dr. Jon Bath (Associate Professor of Art and Art History, University of Saskatchewan).
