Dear all, We are pleased to announce that the registration is now open for DHSI-East 2025, which will take place at St Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, from Monday 5 May-Thursday 8 May, with an aligned event on 9-10 May. Faculty, staff, students, and all interested welcome. We have two concurrent workshops this year: "Digital Sustainability and Preservation in Digital Archives Projects,” led by Dr. Constance Crompton (Canada Research Chair in Digital Humanities, University of Ottawa) and Meghan Landry (ACENET); and "Introduction to Databases for Humanist Data,” led by Dr. Jon Bath (Associate Professor of Art and Art History, University of Saskatchewan). Dr. Stacey Allison-Cassin (Dalhousie University), will offer the keynote talk: “Reflections on Ethics and Justice in Metadata in the Age of AI.” We also invite you to join for our aligned event, “Explore the World of Gaelic Song and Digital Archives!”, organized by Dr. Heather Sparling (Cape Breton University), which will take place on 9-10 May. Sorry for cross-posting. -------------------- Conference Call for Papers *Research Creation, Community Engagement, and Open Social Scholarship* May 1-3, 2025 Acadia University, Wolfville, Nova Scotia Deadline for submissions: January 24 2025 This conference will bring together key practitioners in research creation, open social scholarship, and community engagement to encourage broad and inclusive conversations about centring, empowering, and serving communities through humanities research that focuses on inclusive, generous processes. It will also play host to the 12th Implementing New Knowledge Environments (INKE) Partnership annual gathering. Humanities scholarship is traditionally and problematically disconnected from selfless commitments to creativity and community. However, a number of innovative research approaches work against such conventionally exclusive perceptions and practices. For example, research creation involves the use of artistic practices to ask questions and explore possibilities, to reflect and reveal our world back to ourselves, and to help us imagine ourselves otherwise. Additionally, radical community engagement practices feature researchers who generously, humbly, and respectfully work with and within community-led initiatives instead of leading, guiding, or exclusively determining such projects. Both of these approaches foreground and expand upon open social scholarship practices, which are motivated by a desire to shift our scholarly habits away from insularity, exclusivity, and self-referentiality toward inclusive accessibility. This conference is a bold attempt to imagine a larger framework and community of open researchers, and to productively encourage diverse and innovative communities to engage their collaborative potential toward answering the following questions: ● How do we include and engage more people in creative humanities scholarship that serves their needs and the needs of others? ● In what ways can we offer our critical skills and strengths as academics to community-led initiatives? ● How can different kinds of creative research practices promote collaborative and inclusive ways of understanding each other? Featuring plenary panels focused on research creation and community engagement, paper presentations, research lightning talks, and a showcase of Open Scholarship Award winners, this conference will connect researchers, community members, creative practitioners, teachers, innovators, and unconventional scholars to explore the above questions and more. We invite proposals that address these and other issues pertinent to research in the area, and are open to considering proposals for other types of presentations as well. Proposals should specify whether you are planning for a 20-minute presentation or 5-minute lightning talk, and must contain a title, an abstract (of approximately 250 words, plus list of works cited), and the names, affiliations, and website URLs of presenters. *Call for Nominations: 2025 Open Scholarship Awards* We are pleased to announce the *2025 Open Scholarship Awards*, sponsored by the Canadian Social Knowledge Institute (c-ski.ca) and its partners! Nominations for the 2025 awards are due by *January 17 2025 *via <https://forms.gle/H5aHzNwEx7UZmNJr7>https://forms.gle/NdeHTsfbv1Wmsyuq7 Open scholarship incorporates open access, open data, open education, and other related movements that have the potential to make scholarly work more efficient, more accessible, and more usable by those within and beyond the academy. By engaging with open practices for academic work, open scholarship shares that work more broadly and more publicly. *Awards, Nominations and Eligibility* Two 2025 awards are available: ● the *Open Scholarship Award*, for open scholarship carried out by scholars, librarians, citizen scholars, research professionals, and administrators. ● the *Emerging Researcher Open Scholarship Award*, for open scholarship carried out by undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and early-stage professionals. For all awards, the successful candidates will have demonstrated exemplary open scholarship via research, projects, or initiatives. Hello, I’m working on a digital demonstration to submit for the CSDH 2025 annual meeting as part of Congress 2025. I have filled out the abstract and contribution details, however, I am being prompted to upload file(s). I do not have any files to upload as my digital demonstration is an online exhibition/website. Call for Workshop Proposals: We are seeking 4-day workshops on any aspect of digital humanities. Proposals will be selected by the local organizing committee with a view to maintaining the workshops’ emphasis on diversity in the digital humanities, meeting demand for particular topics, and instructor experience and qualifications. The DH@Guelph Summer Workshops will run over four days, May 13th-16th, 2025. DH@Guelph covers the cost of travel, residence accommodation, and a modest honorarium for visiting instructors. Note that our budget is limited with a view to keeping participant costs reasonable, so if your expenses will be significant we are unlikely to be able to accept the proposal.
