        Subject: now we are 2001

Some here will be interested in the fact that this morning, London time,
the membership of Humanist exceeded 2000 (by one) for the first time in
its history. Membership fluctuates to a certain extent, up and down, and 2000
is a small number in terms of the population of the world, or the total number
of academics world-wide &c, but still I for one celebrate. Other celebrants are
welcome!

Yours,
WM
