Subject: disciplinary variation across national/linguistic boundaries?

Might anyone here know of studies on the variation of disciplinary
cultures across national and/or linguistic boundaries? I know of the
work of Mats Alvesson (Lund, visiting at Exeter), but there seems little
more than mentions of his idea of "Great Culture". Adam Podgorecki's
book, Higher Faculties: A Cross-National Study of University Culture
(Praeger, 1997), has also surfaced. Other suggestions welcome.

Yours,
WM
